Tonight, if England beat Argentina in the World Cup semi-final… it wouldn’t just be a win.
It would be 60 years of hurt, exhaled in one massive, guttural roar.
For the first time since 1966 we’d be in a World Cup Final. The same nation that beat Argentina in the quarter-finals on the way to lifting the trophy all those years ago would be doing it again - only this time with the whole world watching and the weight of every near-miss since then on our shoulders.
Maradona’s hand. The red card in ‘98. All the “so close” moments. Gone. Buried under a performance dripping in that proper English style - heart on the sleeve, steel in the spine, never knowing when you’re beaten. Bellingham dictating with that swagger, Kane leading like a man possessed, the whole team fighting for every blade of grass like their lives depend on it.
What would it actually mean?
It would mean the country stopping dead. Pubs in every town and city erupting as one. Strangers hugging in the street. Kids waking up tomorrow in their England shirts believing the impossible is possible again.
It would mean this generation finally delivering when it matters most. Proving that the Three Lions aren’t just here to make up the numbers - we’re here to win it.
Argentina are the champions. Messi is a living legend. But if we do it tonight the English way - with fire, fight and that unbreakable belief - we don’t just reach the final.
We rewrite the story.
Come on England.
This is our night. This is our time.
