🐾 Meet Trev 🐾
Trev, a 6-year-old domestic shorthair came to see us yesterday after his owners noticed his left hind paw had become extremely swollen🐾
Trev was already on a course of antibiotics. However, with no improvement Trev was bought back by his dad to see our vet, Bella. Bella advised to get to the bottom of the problem. We did this by sedating Trev so we could take x-rays and thoroughly examine his foot🩻
Thankfully, there were no fractures or broken bones. Instead, we discovered a nasty cat bite abscess with multiple puncture wounds hidden beneath the swelling🩸
After clipping and cleaning the area, Trev was started on a course of anti-inflammatory medication (NSAIDs) to help tackle the swelling and keep him comfortable (still covered by antibiotics).
Cat bite wounds may look small on the surface, but they can quickly lead to painful infections and abscesses under the skin. If you notice swelling, lameness, or discomfort in your cat, it’s always best to have them checked as soon as possible. You can call us on 01322 223311
