Despite a horrid night with my health and a morning of feeling rather unwell. I dragged myself over to thornaby to spread the rocks where we need them to be. The next step is to put the net up over the top.

A tonne of rocks moved by two small women in a few hours is bloody good going I reckon. Thank you Sarah for the help lugging it back and forth.

A spade, a wheelbarrow, a rake and a small camping trolley were all we used πŸ˜….

I am going to hurt tomorrow. I hurt now, but it's done and we can get to the next important stage!

A few days ago I took in a little tiny squab desperate for help. It was so young that without an experienced hand, they would've surely died. I have quite a few pairs down on fake eggs at the moment which is pretty much the only reason I said yes to them, I knew one of the pairs would foster them and raise them until they can be released (the other baby later in the video came from a viable egg brought to us a while ago). I have pairs here on feggs and pairs at the off site aviary on feggs too πŸ˜…. Pigeons are frankly randy buggers!

Well Donut and Jaffa here at the home loft took the little one in today after I made sure the squab was healthy and didn't have any infections from their original parents. It's been here two days and now I'm happy with growth and development, today they went out into the loft. Donut wasn't convinced at first but soon decided that this was more than okay, has fed them, and is sitting lovely.

Donut actually came to me with one compound fracture in the left leg (albeit minor compound) and a closed fracture of the right after being hit by a car.

He needed extensive rehabilitation and spent almost 6 weeks in donuts and slings to allow his legs to heal, the whole time being an absolute star. Once they were adequately fused we started physical therapy which took an equal amount of time, but soon Donut proved his ability. I never expected him to be as mobile as he is now with how he came in, but he is one of the strongest in the aviary taking no s**t from anyone else πŸ˜‚

His legs are a little wonky looking but perfectly functional, his joints somehow weren't affected by the fractures and he has full mobility, he loves the swing in the avairy. This is his first and his partners first time fostering so I am keeping a close eye.

Bigfoot and Brookes are both moulting... Bigfoot looks horrific πŸ˜‚πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ
Brookes has a bald patch on the back of his head that looks like the batman logo.
Bigfoot says Brookes needs a mohawk

(There is nothing in the cage they are sat on)

Tiny my little disabled rooster πŸ“ πŸ’•

Tiny is majorly physically disabled due to splay leg, he came to me as a youngster after his owners tried to correct his legs but unfortunately were unsuccessful.

I too did my best to splint what I could to give him some mobility but the foot splints were causing too many pressure rubs for me to continue saying it was worth it when he was happily getting around without them.

He lives in my bedroom, mostly on the bed but sometimes under, especially if he knows there are visitors. He happily will accept pets for a few select people, but most now he wants nothing to do with. His favourite food is Tuna πŸ˜…... The cat also eats Tuna and apparently it smells irresistible to him, I'd rather not have a bird trying to steal my cats food and neither would my poor cat πŸ˜‚.

One of the things about Tiny, is that he is here for a good time, not a long time. His disability means that there is undue strain on certain biomechanisms like his joints and respiratory system. If he shows any signs of discomfort or ill effects, that will be addressed, whether that is further management or letting him go, he is not there yet. My vet has seen him pretty much since he arrived here and never seen any signs of discomfort.

At the moment I do multiple things to preserve his longevity, he is kept lean, kept on soft surfaces, and given supplements to help preserve his function as long as possible.

He's a loving boy when you get to know him πŸ₯Ή.

Who remembers the little Mandarin Duckling we took in earlier this year?

Mandarin ducks once they come into a captive setting legally cannot be release as they are classed as an invasive schedule 9 species.

He stayed with us until he was able to be off heat and getting some adults feathers in then needed a new placement.

So we sent them up to live with our friend in Scotland who has Pingu the "faux mallard" and Gooey the goose.

Well, here is Mandies gender reveal....

He is a beautiful boy! ❀️

Is there anyone that would be willing to help out with transport this week from Darlington to Thornaby in the afternoons? I am happy to pay towards the fuel.

We need to get this gull pen finished but I'm really struggling for transport, taxis are charging 20+ quid for a ten mile journey and public transport would take about an hour, including a significant walk.

If you can help with some groundwork even better, but that isn't required, I just need someone with a car really πŸ₯².

How I wish my eyesight was better and I was legally allowed to be behind a wheel πŸ˜πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ. Best wheels I get are a bike, and if you know me... I don't have a great track record with them either πŸ˜‚

The beaks need your help! ❀️

Can you help us stock up on supplies for our birds?

The gull pen is taking up a lot more funds than expected and honestly without help we won't make it through the month.

So far we are in over Β£350 and with more to do. I'm supposed to be there today as the rocks were delivered but I am struggling to find a lift through, uber is estimating 20 quid for one way (a 10.5 mile journey πŸ™„) and that just isn't viable with the funds I have.

Today I'm here asking for help with the basics, we are running low on meat (the gulls seem to prefer the large cans!), pigeon corn, safe 4 and floor cleaner, millet, and easichick bedding. Things we use daily or almost daily, also if you have any spare food your dog or cat didnt like in the cupboard they will happily eat that too!

Do you have a few quid spare that could go towards helping our local birds? πŸ™ We rely on public donations, everything that goes on at Darlington Bird Rescue is 100% funded and backed by you!

Even the smallest donation helps, £2 or £20, it all adds up in the end towards supplies ❀️

Bulk bag of 10mm gravel ordered to be delivered next week, I'm in need of someome reliable to help me with transports from Darlington to Thornaby and back over the coming week, I'm happy to pay towards fuel and if you have a few hours free to help move rocks, do some landscaping, help with levelling/digging panels, even better.

Thank you to everyone who is helping making this possible. Its a bit more than we originally thought but I'd rather do it right than not and risk the gulls we have.

I'm sorry I didn't end up getting back to anyone yesterday, I ended up feeling pretty unwell with my chronic health issues, likely cause I've overdone it πŸ₯². If anyone is free today to help I can pass over the address as we'll be there this afternoon for a few hours continuing work. Gloves aren't provided, my apologies πŸ˜…, and there are stinging plants.

If anyone has tips of best ways to move a s**t tonne (literally) πŸ˜‚, of rocks down a hill without hurting yourself, please give them to me, I will need them... I only weigh 43 kilos for god sake 😭, I'll be flying down there attached to a barra! πŸ™ˆπŸ˜¬

Do you have a few quid spare that could go towards helping our birds? πŸ™ We rely on public donations alone, no grants, no support from local authorities, everything that goes on at Darlington Bird Rescue is 100% funded and backed by you!

This gull pen project is becoming quite expensive and any donations coming in are being put towards making this the safest, most secure area we can for them.

Even the smallest donation helps, £2 or £20, it all adds up in the end towards supplies ❀️

Is anyone available this afternoon and tomorrow to help out in the gull pen? Even an hour or so with a few extra pairs of hands would be great.

I'm also looking for a half tonne/tonne of 10mm gravel/pea gravel for leveling some areas out so if you have any recommendations for people who will deliver same day please comment πŸ™

It can be cash or transfer, at this point I just want to get this finished. I've so many other things that need to be done too so each delay is just dragging things out :(
