Darlington Westway Vets Westway Vets was established in 1975. We are constantly committed to achieving high clinical standards and providing excellent patient and client care.

With our dedicated team of friendly vets, compassionate nurses and caring reception staff, we are proud to provide an exceptional level of care for the pets of Darlington and it's surrounding areas. We have 19 branches across Tyne and wear, Durham and Northumberland which are supported by our Tier 3 RCVS hospital in Newcastle Upon Tyne. We have excellent operating and in house facilities including a separate dedicated feline unit which has received Gold standard cat friendly clinic status.

Some anxiety medications need to be started in advance, so please don’t leave it until the last minute.

💙 Happy Vet Nurse Appreciation Day! 🐾

A little shoutout to the lovely nurses who keep things moving behind the scenes (and are usually the ones giving your pets extra cuddles, too! 😂).

From helping our poorly patients feel better to keeping them comfy, sneaking in a fuss whenever they can and making sure everyone gets the care they need, there's never a dull moment.

We're lucky to have such a lovely bunch looking after our four-legged visitors. 🥹💙

Rehoming 🐾🐈

We currently have an adult male cat called Simba who is looking for a new home.

For the most part he is a friendly, loving cat who enjoys a fuss on his terms, but he is known to have a bit of a spicy attitude! Due to this we are looking for an experienced home, potentially with an enclosed outdoor space as he seems to require a lot of enrichment to burn his energy. We believe he will require a home where he will be the only pet, with no children and lots of time to play!

We appreciate that he has a lot of requests for his next family, but we are hoping to find the right owner for him ❤️

Meadow came in to see us for a hernia repair, and after her procedure, she found herself a very comfy spot for some well-earned cuddles. 💕

The lump you can see in the second photo is the hernia that needed repairing, and the third photo shows the area after surgery.

She was such a good girl while she was with us, and once she was settled and feeling a little more herself, it was time for the important stuff… cuddles! 🥰

We hope you're back home being thoroughly spoiled now, Meadow. 🐾💙

⚠️ A scary moment for little Evie

Evie was brought in to us as an emergency after getting a treat stuck at the top of her mouth.

She was understandably very distressed and was clawing at her face trying to get it out. 🥺

Our nurses and vet had to carefully calm her down and sedate her so they could safely remove the treat.

Thankfully, they were able to get it out and Evie was soon feeling much happier. ❤️

It's a good reminder to keep an eye on your pets when they're enjoying treats and chews. What seems like a harmless treat can occasionally cause a problem.

Rabbit Needs a Home!

We have a lovely adult male rabbit who's in need of a new home 🏡

He would be appropriate as an indoor rabbit and will be neutered/vaccinated prior to rehoming.

A rehoming fee will apply which goes directly into our strayfund which helps us to look after future stray pets.

Danny came in to see us for an a**l gland flush, but once he was all done, he decided the best place to be was cuddled up with Nurse Katherine. 😂💙

And honestly… we weren't going to argue with him!

Safe to say, there were plenty of cuddles before he headed home. 🐾🥰

The faces you'll usually find behind the desk! 👋🐾 ... we also can't forget our wonderful senior Emma who unfortunately isn't in today to join the photo🫣🥰

Phones ringing, appointments being booked, paperwork appearing from absolutely nowhere, owners needing a quick chat, and occasionally trying to drink a cup of tea while it's still hot… ☕😂

There's never really a quiet day on reception!

🎆 Fireworks season is coming... and it is closer than you think.

If your pet finds fireworks frightening, now is the time to start thinking about it, rather than waiting until Bonfire Night.

If your dog or cat spent last fireworks season shaking, hiding, panting, pacing, trying to escape or just generally looking terrified, give us a call. 🐶🐱

Some pets may benefit from medication to help them cope, but this needs to be discussed with a vet in advance so there's time to decide what's most suitable for your pet.

Medication isn't the only option; things like creating a safe space, keeping curtains closed, and using background noise can all help too.

Don't leave it until the last minute. 🎆
