5 signs your dog might benefit from physiotherapy 🐾 🐶

🐾 Stiffness after resting - don’t dismiss as ‘just getting old’ - there’s things we can do to help!
🐾 Struggling with stairs or jumping into the car
🐾 Limping or uneven movement
🐾 Reduced willingness to exercise…trailing behind you on walks or even just being less excited than usual!
🐾 Recovering from an injury or surgery

Dogs hide pain very very well and the sooner we can intervene with any signs…the better!
Feel free to pop me a message with any questions…always happy to have a chat about your lovely doggos ❤️

🐴 Has your horse felt the effects of this summer’s hard ground?
With weeks of dry weather, many horses have been exercising or even just turned out on unusually firm ground, meaning increased concussion and impact through the limbs and body.

You may notice subtle changes such as:
🔸 Stiffness after exercise
🔸 Muscle tension
🔸 Changes in way of going
🔸 Reduced flexibility or willingness to work
🔸 Soreness or compensation elsewhere

Even if your horse seems completely fine, now is a great time for a post-summer MOT before small issues become bigger ones. Remember horses mask pain well! So by the time an issue is obvious… it’s likely been going on for a while.

🐎 Veterinary physiotherapy can help identify and treat areas of tension, restriction and compensation to support your horse’s comfort and performance.

What happens at your pet's first veterinary physiotherapy appointment?🐴🐶

If you've never booked a veterinary physiotherapy session before, you might be wondering what to expect. My goal is to make both you and your animal feel relaxed while carrying out a thorough assessment to create the best treatment plan possible.

Here's what your initial consultation includes:

✅ A detailed history
We'll discuss your horse or dog's medical history, any previous injuries or surgeries, current medications, lifestyle, workload, and any concerns you've noticed. You’re the one who knows them best so hearing your opinions and goals is important to me!

✅ Static assessment
I'll observe your horse/dog standing to assess posture, weight distribution, muscle symmetry and overall body condition.

✅ Dynamic assessment
I'll then watch them move to identify any abnormalities in their gait, movement patterns or compensations that may be contributing to discomfort.

✅ Hands-on assessment
This includes palpating muscles and joints, assessing flexibility, range of motion, muscle tone and identifying any areas of pain, tension or restriction.

✅ 🧘‍♀️ Treatment
Based on my findings, treatment may include a combination of manual therapy techniques, massage, stretching, joint mobilisations, therapeutic exercises, and other appropriate physiotherapy modalities.

✅ A personalised rehabilitation plan!
Before I leave, you'll receive tailored exercises and management advice to continue at home, helping your animal get the very best results between sessions. Ps…the homework is important!!

Every animal is different, so no two appointments are ever the same. My treatments are always tailored to your horse or dog's individual needs, whether they're recovering from injury, managing a long-term condition, improving performance or simply staying comfortable.

📩 If you have any questions or would like to discuss whether physiotherapy could benefit your horse or dog, feel free to get in touch!

This first month in business has been everything I hoped it would be... and more💙

From meeting so many lovely owners and their horses and dogs, to helping patients move more comfortably and confidently, every day has reminded me why I so badly wanted this career!

Thank you to everyone who has trusted me with your animals, recommended my services, shared my posts, or simply supported me along the way. It really does mean the world.

Here's to many more happy patients, wagging tails and another month doing my dream job. 🐴🐶✨

🎾 HAS PLAYTIME CHANGED 🎾

Remember when your dog could play for hours and never tire?

Sometimes the earliest signs of discomfort are not obvious limping or crying out, they are small changes in behaviour that happen gradually over time 🐶

Ask your self the questions below and if any of the answers are yes then hydrotherapy might benefit your dog 🐾

Hydrotherapy is low impact gentle way to help improve strength, mobility and fitness while supporting your dog overall wellbeing 💛🐕

A dog slowing down doesn't always mean there "just getting older" sometimes they just need a little more support 💙🐾

🐴 Horses weren’t designed to carry us on their backs… 🐴

As much as our horses do an incredible job looking after us, carrying a rider is something that doesn’t come naturally to them. Whether they’re hacking once a week, competing every weekend, or somewhere in between, ridden work places extra demands on their muscles, joints and bodies.

That’s why regular physiotherapy isn’t just for horses with an injury or obvious problem – it’s an important part of keeping them comfortable, moving well and performing at their best.

Physiotherapy can help:
✨ Identify areas of tension or soreness before they become bigger issues.
✨ Improve flexibility and range of movement.
✨ Support performance and recovery.
✨ Reduce the risk of compensatory injuries.
✨ Keep your horse feeling happy and comfortable in their work.

Think of it as part of your horse’s routine healthcare, alongside dentistry, farriery and saddle fitting. Looking after their body now can help prevent bigger problems in the future.

After everything our horses do for us, keeping them comfortable is the least we can do. ❤️

Have you had your horse checked recently?
Feel free to pop me a message and discuss how physiotherapy could help your horse!
