🐾 β˜€οΈ YOUR DOG'S SAFETY COMES FIRST β˜€οΈ 🐾

Whilst exercise is important for dogs, during periods of extreme heat it is not crucial. What *is* crucial is keeping our dogs safe.

At PawFecter Dog Walking, the welfare of every dog in our care is always our number one priority. For that reason, we have made the decision to cancel all dog walks during the current hot weather and are instead offering home visits for toilet breaks and mental enrichment activities.

Many people underestimate just how dangerous high temperatures can be for dogs. Unlike us, dogs cannot cool themselves efficiently through sweating. They rely mainly on panting, which becomes far less effective as temperatures rise. Heatstroke can develop incredibly quickly and can be fatal, even after relatively short periods of exercise.

A missed walk for a day or two will not harm your dog. Heatstroke can.

During our visits, we will be keeping dogs comfortable and engaged with activities such as:
🐾 Snuffle mats
🐾 Licky mats
🐾 Scent games
🐾 Gentle enrichment activities in shaded areas of the garden or indoors

Mental stimulation can be just as tiring and rewarding as physical exercise and is a fantastic way to meet your dog's needs whilst keeping them cool and safe.

We know how much your dogs love their adventures, but we'd much rather have a slightly disappointed dog than one suffering from heat exhaustion.

Thank you for your understanding and for helping us put your dogs' wellbeing first. Stay cool, stay safe, and give those pups an extra cuddle from us! ❀️🐢

Today Reggie had a great time with his enrichment in his garden.

🐾 Introducing Paws & Pass It On! 🐾

We're delighted to launch our brand-new *Paws & Pass It On* basket, located in the entrance of PawFecter School for Dogs! ❀️

As dog owners, we all know how quickly dogs can outgrow harnesses, collars, and leads, or how equipment can end up tucked away unused. Rather than letting these items gather dust, we'd love to give them a second life and help fellow dog owners at the same time.

πŸ• Got any spare dog equipment?
We're looking for:
βœ”οΈ Harnesses
βœ”οΈ Collars
βœ”οΈ Leads

All items must be clean, washed, and in good condition before being donated.

🐾 Need something for your dog?
Simply help yourself to anything that may be useful. We kindly ask for a donation in our charity box in return.

❀️ Every penny donated will go directly to Second Chance Spaniel Rescue, helping dogs in need find the care, support, and second chance they deserve.

This initiative is all about supporting our dog community, reducing waste, recycling perfectly usable equipment, and raising money for a fantastic rescue along the way.

So, next time you're visiting the school, have a look through those cupboards and drawers. If you have a harness, collar, or lead that's no longer needed, why not Paws & Pass It On?

Together we can help dogs, owners, and rescue dogs in needβ€”one lead, collar, and harness at a time. 🐾❀️

🐾 Why PawFecter School for Dogs Exists 🐾

PawFecter School for Dogs was created with one simple goal β€” to provide a safe, supportive, and understanding environment where dogs and their owners can learn, grow, and succeed together.

One of the biggest misconceptions in dog training is that dogs should be able to learn new skills anywhere, regardless of what is happening around them. The reality is that learning is hard when the environment is overwhelming.

Think about trying to teach a child to read and write English in the middle of a busy play park. With children running around, games being played, and endless distractions, how much learning would actually happen? Most children would struggle to concentrate.

Dogs are exactly the same.

Whether you have a puppy, an adolescent dog, a rescue dog, or an older dog learning new skills, they need a safe place where they can focus without being overwhelmed by distractions, other dogs, exciting smells, people, traffic, or the countless things competing for their attention.

That is why the School exists.

The School provides a calm, controlled environment where your dog can begin learning and understanding new behaviours. Once those foundations are in place and those skills start becoming second nature, we can gradually introduce more stimulating environments and real-life situations.

We don't expect a dog to perform perfectly in a busy park before they've learned the skill in a quiet setting first.

Success comes from building confidence, understanding, and reliability step by step.

🐢 At PawFecter School for Dogs, I offer:
βœ” Puppy Training
βœ” Confidence & Skills Classes
βœ” Reactive Dog Coaching
βœ” Behaviour Support Programmes
βœ” 1-2-1 Training Sessions
βœ” Social Walks
βœ” Dog Walking Services

My goal is to help dogs and their owners enjoy life together by building trust, communication, and confidence in a way that is fair, achievable, and enjoyable for everyone.

If your dog is struggling with training, becoming overwhelmed in the outside world, or you simply want to strengthen the bond you share, I'm here to help.

β˜€οΈ Wednesday's Heatwave Plans β˜€οΈ

With temperatures predicted to be exceptionally high on Wednesday, the welfare of the dogs in our care must always come first.

As a result, Wednesday's Field Trip will be cancelled. Whilst we know how much the dogs enjoy their adventures, the forecast temperatures make it unsafe for prolonged exercise, travel, and outdoor activity.

For dogs who would normally attend the Field Trip, we will instead be offering home visits where necessary. These visits will focus on comfort, welfare, toilet breaks, fresh water, enrichment, and plenty of fuss in the safety of their own home.

Heat-related illness can develop very quickly in dogs, and even well-conditioned dogs can struggle in extreme temperatures. We'd much rather disappoint them with a quieter day than put them at risk.

If you are affected by this change, we will be in touch directly to discuss arrangements.

Thank you, as always, for your understanding and support as we make decisions that put the dogs' health and wellbeing first. ❀️🐾

Stay cool, keep those water bowls topped up at home, and remember that sometimes the best adventure is a relaxing day in the shade! 🌳🐢

🐾 A Kind Request Regarding Water Bowls for Dogs & Cats 🐾

Firstly, a huge thank you to everyone who kindly leaves water out for dogs and cats during the warmer weather. It comes from a place of genuine care and compassion, which is wonderful to see within our community.

However, we would like to make people aware that communal water bowls can unfortunately pose a significant health risk. There has recently been a reported case of Parvovirus in the village and, whilst the affected dog is isolating, there may still be other dogs carrying the virus without showing symptoms.

Shared water bowls can be an easy way for viruses and infectious diseases to spread between animals. This isn't just a concern during the current situation – communal bowls can carry risks at any time of year.

If you're walking your dog, please bring fresh water from home and a portable bowl. During hot weather, it's also advisable to walk dogs early in the morning or later in the evening when temperatures are cooler.

We know everyone's intentions are kind, and this message is simply about helping to keep all of our dogs safe and healthy.

Thank you for your understanding and for continuing to look out for our four-legged friends. ❀️🐢

🌲🐾 What a fantastic morning we had at Hamsterley Forest for today's PawFecter Social Walk! 🐾🌲

The sun was shining, the sky was beautifully blue, and the forest was looking absolutely stunning. β˜€οΈπŸ’™

Demi and I were joined by our wonderful PawFecter Crew, with members Bertie, Maverick, Joey and Kylo, along with their fabulous humans. Together we enjoyed a lovely walk filled with great conversation, plenty of laughter, happy dogs, and lots of exercise.

There's something truly special about spending time outdoors with like-minded dog lovers. Watching the dogs explore, sniff, socialise and enjoy their adventures while friendships grow amongst their humans is exactly what our social walks are all about. πŸ•β€οΈ

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us today and helped make it such a lovely morning.

πŸ“… Our next PawFecter Social Walk will be on Sunday 19th July.
