We have had an unneutered male cat handed into the practice this morning found at the junction of Edgehead village.
This wee guy is all black with 2 white back feet and no microchip.

Educational Monday: Dislocations

We see dislocated joints quite frequently in practice - from hips to toes, and they can be very painful.

Poor Teddy dislocated his toe a few weeks ago - he had only managed to dislocate the joint at the very tip. It was put back in place and we hoped that it would stabilise, but a few weeks later it dislocated again and was very sore for this poor boy.

Surgery was performed to remove the bone at the tip of the toe, maintaining the rest of the toe and his pad for weight bearing. He is much more coomfortable now and we don't expect any long term issues for him!

We are very pleased to welcome Liza to our Reception team this week - she brings with her a lot of experience from the human medical world, and a great love for animals (in particular Boxers ❤ ) Welcome Liza, have a great first day!

'Hi, I’m Liza, and I’m delighted to be joining the team at Heritage Vets as your new receptionist!

I’ve always had a huge love for animals, so I feel very lucky to be working in a role where I get to meet so many wonderful pets and their owners. I’m really looking forward to getting to know our clients and helping make every visit to the practice as welcoming and comfortable as possible.

I recently said goodbye to my beloved 11-year-old Boxer, Frank, so I’m sure you’ll understand why I’m more than happy to have plenty of cuddles with your fur babies!

I’m incredibly excited to become part of the Heritage Vets family and look forward to meeting you and your pets very soon.

It's Emily's first day with us today! She joins our expanding team of Registered Veterinary Nurses, and brings new skills and interests to our incredible team.

Have a good first day! Here's a little introduction from Emily:

'I graduated from SRUC in June 2025 as a Registered Veterinary Nurse and have spent the past year working in a small animal practice. I love all aspects of veterinary nursing, with a particular interest in inpatient care and nurse consultations, especially weight management clinics. I really enjoy building relationships with clients and helping owners feel confident in caring for their pets, while providing the best possible care for their animals.

Outside of work, I love to Canicross with my crazy Cocker Spaniel, Barney! When we’re not running together, we enjoy getting out and about exploring in our camper van.

I’m also a co-chair for Cani-Sports Edinburgh, where I help organise our annual Canicross race and enjoy introducing new people to this amazing sport.'
