🐶 Dog Rescue Day 🐶
An awareness day really close to my heart. ❤
We got Layla from Dogs Trust 2 years ago after deciding we wanted a friend for Ebbie. We weren’t sure whether we were going to get a puppy or a rescue dog at the beginning, so we started filling out application forms with local rescue centres, explaining what we were looking for - breed, good with other dogs, good with children etc.
When Layla became available, Dogs Trust gave us a call and we went to meet her the very next day. We took Ebbie with us for the first visit to make sure they got on well, then had a couple more visits after that just to be certain. But honestly, as soon as we walked into the rescue centre, I think we both knew we weren’t leaving without her.
I was definitely nervous about getting a rescue dog. Not knowing their background, temperament or behaviour completely can feel scary, and I did worry about whether she would settle in and truly feel at home. But Dogs Trust made the whole process so easy and were always there to support us if we needed help or advice.
Layla took a few weeks to fully settle, which is completely understandable, but with the help of her best friend Ebbie she quickly came out of her shell and now she’s such a huge part of our family - I honestly couldn’t imagine life without her.
If anyone is thinking about getting a pet, please do consider rescue centres. There are so many amazing pets waiting for homes, and the rescue teams work really hard to help match you with the right pet for your family and lifestyle.
Getting a selfie with a spaniel is so much harder than I thought it would be! 🤳😂
