👻 We hope you’re planning your Halloween costume…

Because on 31 October, we’ll be looking out for some of the best dressed visitors at Fife Zoo.

Cute, creepy, funny, wildly creative — anything goes, and prizes are up for grabs. 🎃

But dressing up is only part of the day. There’ll also be face painting, munchkin picking and decorating, spooky stories, themed keeper talks and wildlife stalls from the RSPB, Scottish Wildlife Trust and Bat Group.

And yes… prebooked children get a Halloween party bag too.

📅 Saturday 31 October
🕙 10am–4pm
🎟️ £12.50 per person
👶 Under 2s free

So, what are you coming dressed as? 👀

As temperatures fall, reptiles face a particular challenge — they rely on warmth from their surroundings to stay active.

In autumn, animals such as snakes and lizards begin searching for sheltered places where they can spend the colder months. They may use old burrows, gaps beneath rocks, log piles or other protected spaces where temperatures stay relatively stable.

Rather than true hibernation, reptiles enter a state called brumation. Their metabolism slows dramatically, they become far less active and they can go for long periods without feeding.

They may occasionally emerge during an unusually mild spell, but for much of winter they’ll remain safely tucked away until spring temperatures begin to rise.

Leaving log piles, stones and undisturbed corners in gardens can provide useful shelter — so once again, being a little less tidy can be surprisingly good for wildlife. 🍂🦎

🎃 Taylor has decided to carve her own pumpkin this year.

Her technique is a little unconventional… but we’re not going to argue with someone carrying that many spikes. 😂

Spooky season, Fife Zoo style. 👻

🌙 Imagine arriving at the zoo in daylight… and leaving under torchlight.

!! LAST REMAINING TICKETS !!

Our Twilight evenings are proving extremely popular, and we're down to our last few tickets!

On Friday 16 and Saturday 17 October, you can wander Fife Zoo as the afternoon fades, the paths get darker, and the whole place settles into evening.

There’s no timetable to follow and no guided route — just explore at your own pace, with keepers around the zoo as you go.

And everyone with a paid ticket gets their own little branded Fife Zoo torch to use on the night and take home afterwards. 🔦

There’ll also be plenty of autumn comfort food available to buy, including BBQ food, sausage rolls, soup and hot alcohol-free mulled w**e.

📅 Friday 16 & Saturday 17 October
🕟 4:30pm–7:30pm
🎟️ £12.50 per person

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 All ages welcome

If you fancy an autumn evening that feels a little bit different, this one’s for you. ✨

When the job needs zero fossas, but Isalo has other ideas… 👀😂

Mike's been busy putting up the lights ready for Twilight at Fife Zoo, but it seems someone's appointed himself Head of Health & Safety!

Not sure how much help he's been, but he's certainly keeping a close eye on proceedings! 🐾🔦

Badgers don’t hibernate, but as autumn gives way to winter they do start to slow things down.

They spend more time underground in their setts, particularly during cold or wet weather, and may stay below ground for several days at a time.

Before winter really sets in, they’ll feed as much as they can to build up their fat reserves. Earthworms make up a big part of their diet, but they’ll also eat fruit, nuts and other seasonal foods when they can find them.

Their setts provide shelter from the worst of the weather, with underground chambers that stay much more stable in temperature than the world above.

On milder nights, though, badgers will still head out to forage.

So while they’re not sleeping the whole winter away, they definitely know when it’s a good night to stay in. 🍂🦡

🐛 CREEPY CRAWLIES! 🕷️

It’s the final Cubs Club of this block this Thursday, and we’re finishing with some of the smallest residents at Fife Zoo!

This week is all about creepy crawlies — the wriggly, crawly and brilliant little creatures that are far more fascinating than they first appear. 🐞

There’ll be stories, crafts, activities and plenty of chances to learn more about the invertebrates we care for here at the zoo.

📅 This Thursday
🕷️ Theme: Creepy Crawlies
🎟️ Zoo entry for one child and one accompanying adult included

You can book this session on its own too, so if your little one loves anything wriggly, crawly or slightly weird, come and join us for the final Cubs Club of the block. 💚
