🐦What to do if you find a baby bird...🐦

We understand if an animal looks to be in distress or trouble it is in our natural instinct to want to help, however sometimes intervening, particularly with wildlife can have a negative impact.

We've recently had a small influx of good natured citizens bringing in young fledglings concerned for their health/safety, however, please read the below advice before you decide to bring them into the veterinary environment:

If you find a young bird hopping around on the ground, don’t assume it’s abandoned. 🐦

Fledglings leave the nest before they can fully fly — it’s a normal part of learning to survive. Their parents are usually nearby, feeding and protecting them even if you can’t see them.

Taking a fledgling away from the wild can actually reduce its chances of survival.
What you should do:
• Keep pets and people away
• Leave the bird where it is if it’s safe
• Move it only a short distance to nearby cover if it’s in immediate danger
• Watch from a distance — the parents will often return once the area is quiet.

The best help is often giving wildlife space to be wild. 💚

💚VNAM Week 4 - Passion 💚

It's the final week of Vet Nurse Awareness Month, but for this final topic of 'Passion' we want to highlight everyone that's involved in this industry! 💚

Passion is the driving force behind every role in the veterinary industry. It’s what gets our staff through the long shifts, the emotional cases, and the moments that test your resilience. It’s the reason we celebrate every small win from a wagging tail after recovery, a patient finally eating again, or even just a grateful owner’s smile.

Working in this field isn’t just a job; it’s a commitment to care, to advocate for those who can’t speak, and to keep showing up even on the hardest days. Passion fuels the learning, strengthens the teamwork, and reminds us why we chose this path in the first place. Because in the veterinary world, it’s not just about what we do — it’s about how much we care. 🐾

All of the above is more than applicable to every member of the team here at Vale Vets, and despite the recent criticism of late, we carry on because it's what we love to do! We are a very proud independent practice who will continue to progress, grow and strive for gold standard care at every turn! We hope you can take this month to appreciate everything our team do and if you have anything positive you would like to share feel free to do so in the comments! Thank you! 💚

Today is National Rescue Dog Day 🐾❤️

A reminder that some of the best companions are waiting in rescue centres across the UK for a second chance.

If you can, adopt, foster, volunteer, or simply spread awareness. Every rescue dog deserves a safe and loving home.

We would love to see your rescue pooches, leave a photo in the comments and share the joy of second hand love 😊

💚VNAM Week 3 - Empathy💚

Empathy isn’t just a “nice-to-have” in veterinary nursing — it’s at the heart of everything we do.

Every patient we care for can’t tell us what’s wrong in words, so we rely on understanding their behavior, their fear, and their pain. Empathy helps us to see beyond symptoms and respond with compassion, patience, and kindness.

But it doesn’t stop with animals. Pet owners are often anxious, emotional, and sometimes overwhelmed. Being able to listen, reassure, and support them through difficult moments — whether it’s a routine visit or a heartbreaking goodbye — is just as important as any clinical skill.

Empathy turns treatment into care. It builds trust, eases fear, and reminds both animals and their humans that they’re not alone.

In veterinary nursing, it’s not only about healing — it’s about understanding. Big thanks to our nursing team, who more often than not will put themselves second so that the client and patients we see always come first, here's to you!💚
