This lovely mini pony mare had colic surgery in October to correct impactions (feed blockages) of the small and large colon.
She had some complications after surgery including post operative reflux (a condition where the small intestine becomes static and cannot move food along in a coordinated manner) and hypertriglyceridemia (high triglycerides happen when horses cannot eat or utilise their fat storages and subsequently have dangerously high levels of fat in the blood which can damage the liver). She fought hard and did very well.
She went home and we are delighted to report that she has had an adorable and healthy foal.
This case is a great example of how horses can thrive after colic surgery, even if there are complications.
