Ferry rides. Off lead walks. Family holidays. Pub visits.

These are all activities my clients have enjoyed with their puppies this summer and I LOVE IT 😍

This hasn’t become their reality by throwing their puppies into these situations and hoping for the best.

This has come from working on skills that builds real confidence - not just their puppy’s but theirs too!

I’m honestly so proud of the work they’ve been doing behind the scenes ❤️

If your puppy looks like an adult dog but is acting like a 🍆 then this is for you.

You’ve officially made it to what I call - the messy middle.

To the outside world, it looks like you and your dog should have your s**t together. But the reality is far from that (and that’s normal!).

Although your puppy looks like an adult, they very much have a puppy brain that’s under some serious reconstruction. Think full instagram worthy Reno!

The first step toward moving forward with your teenage dog is understanding this. The clarity follows.

I see you puppy owner.

You’ve spent the weekend scrolling Facebook groups looking for answers haven’t you?

And I’m going to hazard a guess that you’ve walked away even more confused than when you started.

The problem is, you don’t need more information. You need help sifting through it.

Help to understand what’s worth listening too and what isn’t.
Help in knowing what applies to your puppy and what doesn’t.

Your puppy is sat looking at you after finishing their breakfast in 10 seconds flat.

You glance at the clock. They’ve only been awake 10 minutes.

There’s another 60 to go until it’s time for them to go to sleep so you think to yourself “crap, what do I do with you now?” 😅

This simple tip can change the way those awake times go.

Tomorrow, you’re going to give your puppy a small handful of their food for breakfast (no-one should start the day hungry).

You’re then going to use the rest between now and their next meal time.

➡️ Put it in food toys like Kongs or Toppls

➡️ Use it for training sessions or simply just rewarding your puppy for things you like

➡️ Scatter it in the garden to encourage foraging and sniffing

➡️ Use it for food search games

Not only is this going to fill those wake hours but it’s also going to be helping develop your puppy’s brain too.

Sounds like a win win to me!

I used to love summer. The sunshine would make me feel giddy.

But for the past couple of weeks I have been helping my clients navigate early puppyhood in this heat and it’s sucked for them.

There is already so much pressure to get things right in early puppyhood - especially when it comes to socialisation. Add in the fact it’s too hot to get them out safely and that pressure intensifies.

I do want to reassure you though.

Socialisation is more than just meeting people and dogs. So much socialisation can be done safely at home.

Have a rummage through your cupboards - what surfaces could you introduce them too? What novel objects do you own? What sounds could you play in the background?

Socialisation doesn’t need to stop in the sunshine - it just needs to adapt.
