We all know what the 5 Rating is and what it means (Its not Stars either as many would have you believe)
But have you ever wondered what this mysterious oval stamp means? 🤔
No, it’s not a secret government code. 🕵️♂️
No, it’s not our lottery numbers. 🎰
And sadly, it’s not the combination to a vault full of biltong. 😅
This little badge is actually our official UK food establishment approval mark.
🇬🇧 UK = Proudly produced in the United Kingdom
🏭 AX 072 = Our unique approved establishment number
✅ EC = Confirmation that we operate to strict food hygiene and food safety standards
In plain English? It means The Weston Biltong Company is an officially approved food production facility, regularly inspected and held to high standards of hygiene, traceability, and food safety.
What many people don't realise is that all food producers handling products of animal origin whether that's meat, dairy, fish, eggs, or delicious biltong must be approved by the relevant food authorities and display an identification mark like this one. It's how products can be traced back to the facility that made them and how customers can be confident they're buying from an approved establishment.
So while you're busy enjoying your favourite biltong, droëwors, or boerewors, you can do so knowing it's produced in a facility that's serious about quality not just seriously obsessed with making great biltong.
It may not be the most glamorous logo on our packaging, but it's one of the most important. 👍
