🐾💜 Pet Obesity Awareness Month 💜🐾

Did you know that carrying extra weight can have a real impact on your pet’s health?

Obesity can increase the risk of conditions such as arthritis and joint problems, diabetes, and breathing difficulties, as well as making existing health issues harder to manage.

At Eden Veterinary Referrals, we see patients who need advanced investigations and treatment for a range of medical and orthopaedic conditions. Our teams provide care for complex medical cases and joint problems, helping pets get the treatment and support they need. 🐶🐱

The good news? Small changes can make a big difference! A balanced diet, appropriate exercise and regular weight checks can all help your pet stay healthier and happier.

Concerned about your pet’s weight? Speak to your usual vet for advice on a healthy weight and a suitable weight-management plan.💜

🍂⚠️ WATCH OUT FOR AUTUMN PLANT BULBS! ⚠️🐾

Many spring-flowering bulbs, such as daffodils, tulips and hyacinths, are planted during autumn, but did you know they can be harmful to pets? 🌷🐶🐱

The bulbs are the most toxic part of the plant and can cause vomiting, diarrhoea, drooling and tummy upset if chewed or swallowed. In some cases, more serious symptoms can occur.

🌱 When planting bulbs in the garden, keep curious paws away from freshly dug areas and store bulbs safely out of reach.

🚨 If you think your pet has eaten a plant bulb, contact your vet as soon as possible for advice.

🍂 Please note: This video is part of a series created by Dômes Pharma to raise awareness of autumnal pet toxins and the dangers they can pose to our pets.

👀 Keep an eye on our page for the next post in the series coming soon!

Stay toxin-aware and help keep your pets safe this autumn. 💜

🎆 Fireworks Season & Your Pets 🐾

While fireworks can be exciting for us, they can be a very frightening experience for our pets.

Here are some simple ways to help your pet feel more comfortable:

🏠 Create a safe, cosy space where they can retreat
🔒 Keep cats indoors and ensure doors, windows and cat flaps are secure
🎵 Close curtains and play the TV, radio or calming music to help mask loud noises
🧸 Provide favourite blankets, bedding and toys
❤️ Stay calm and let your pet choose whether they want comfort or quiet time

At Eden Vets, we have a range of options available to support anxious pets during fireworks season, including pheromone products, calming supplements, behavioural advice, and prescription medications where appropriate.

⏰ The best time to prepare is before fireworks begin, so don't leave it until the last minute.

If your pet struggles with fireworks, contact our team to discuss the options available and find the most suitable plan for your pet.

📞 Give us a call or speak to us in practice for advice.

🐾 AVSTS Autumn Conference 2026 🐾

Our referral vets, Georgina and Ginnie, recently attended the AVSTS Autumn Meeting in Nottingham! 💜

The Association of Veterinary Soft Tissue Surgeons (AVSTS) brings together veterinary professionals from across the UK to share knowledge, learn from experts and keep up to date with the latest developments in veterinary surgery.

This year's conference focused on congenital conditions and surgical solutions, providing a great opportunity to learn more about advances in surgical care, exchange ideas and connect with others in the veterinary community.

We're always pleased to see our team taking opportunities to develop their knowledge and skills, helping us continue to provide the best possible care for our patients. 🐶🐱

🐾 Has your pet eaten something they shouldn’t have? 🚨

From socks and toys to bones and stones, swallowed objects can sometimes cause serious problems.

At Eden Veterinary Referrals, our Internal Medicine team can investigate suspected foreign bodies using ultrasound, CT and endoscopy. In some cases, objects can be removed using an endoscope, avoiding the need for open surgery. 💜

Signs to look out for include:
🤢 Vomiting or retching
🍽️ Loss of appetite
💩 Changes in toileting
😔 Lethargy or discomfort

If you think your pet has swallowed something they shouldn’t, contact your vet as soon as possible.
