๐พ NEVER BE AFRAID TO SPEAK UP! ๐พ
Today, we welcomed two dogs whose owners had previously worked with other trainers. They'd been shown how to use slip leads, and I explained that I believed the advice they'd received was correct, with consistency being key to success.
However, the owners wanted to explore alternative methods, and I completely respected that.
We focused on engagement, teaching Leave It correctly and setting homework to build consistency at home. ๐
I'm a balanced trainer, and I believe in having different tools and techniques available. But here's something I really want owners to understand:
You should NEVER feel embarrassed to tell your trainer you're uncomfortable with something.
Whether it's equipment, a technique or an approach that doesn't feel right for you, speak up! You're not being difficult, and you shouldn't feel pressured into doing something you're unhappy with.
A good trainer will have multiple ways of achieving the same result. If one approach doesn't suit you, there's often another way to get there. It might take a little longer, and that's absolutely fine!
My job is to work with you, not force you down a particular route.
โค๏ธ Good training starts with trust โ and that includes trust between trainer and owner.
