More Than Just Riding
It’s not just the riding,
it’s the quiet in the yard,
the early morning greetings
when the nights have been too hard.
It’s a soft breath on your shoulder,
a velvet nose against your cheek,
the way they seem to understand you
without needing words to speak.
It’s brushing out their tangled mane,
and picking hooves in the rain,
filling haynets, mucking stables,
then doing it all again.
It’s standing in the field at sunset,
watching them wander free,
and finding little pieces of peace
in the place you’re meant to be.
It’s muddy boots and tired hands,
it’s hay stuck in your hair,
it’s fixing rugs and filling buckets,
because you’ll always be there.
It’s learning every little quirk,
each scar and every sigh,
knowing when they need your patience,
and when they simply need you nearby.
It’s the trust that isn’t given,
but is slowly built with time,
in every gentle touch and moment,
in every step and every stride.
Because horses are not just something
you climb upon and ride.
They’re the reason you keep showing up,
the ones who stay beside you inside.
And when the saddle is put away,
and the riding day is done,
you realise the greatest moments
were never about the run.
For it was never just the riding,
or the ribbons, jumps or score—
it was every quiet moment
that made you love them more.
It’s a friendship without conditions,
a language spoken heart to heart,
a thousand little memories
that time can’t tear apart.
And perhaps that’s what loving horses is—
not what they let us do,
but all the beautiful, ordinary moments
we get to share with them too. ❤️
I wouldn't change my job for the world! 🥹🐴🫶
