**REHOMED ***

Hello 👋🏻

My name is Jupiter, I'm 5 years old and I'm still looking for a nice home to call my own.

I’ve been looked after by the team here at Broad Lane Vets now for 47 days (and counting) and I am so ready to be able to explore and stretch my legs in a home that is my own.

I am neutered, microchipped and an all round healthy lady.

I love a fuss but would still benefit with having lots of outdoor time, so access to a nice garden or even some fields is essential for me.

Things about me:
🚀 I love a fuss but as you can see I love to spend time in my really comfy bed
🚀 I LOVE my food
🚀 I am a chatty girl and I will follow you around everywhere
🚀 I unfortunately can’t live with any other pets
🚀 I can live in a home with children as long as they understand to respect my space

If you are interested in rehoming me, please call the reception team on 02476464789, or email us at [email protected] to request a stray interest application form to complete, for the attention of Alice Young RVN and Maggi Clancy RVN.

Thank you,
Jupiter 🚀

The Grass Seed Olympics are back… and the cheeky competitors are as determined as ever

This long‑jumping seed made its way deep into poor Bilbo's ear - thankfully he’s now totally fine and feeling much happier.

Grass seeds can sneak into ears, eyes, paws, noses and skin. After a walk, watch for sudden head‑shaking, paw‑licking, sneezing or new swelling. If your pet seems uncomfortable after being outdoors, give us a call.

25 years at Broad Lane… and she still hasn’t run away 🤣
We’re delighted she’s spent all these years with us and (only slightly joking) we’re ready for the next 25.
Happy anniversary, Christine: receptionist, pet‑spoiler, Scotland‑explorer, and all‑round superstar. ❤️

If your pets also believe lunchtime should be a negotiation, we’d love to see their best hopeful looks.

We at Broad Lane Vets are excited to be working in partnership with Pet Proactive to offer our clients simple, fairer pet insurance for dogs and cats.

By designing pet insurance policies in partnership with us, they offer greater certainty to our clients and provide a hassle-free claims process that can go directly through us!

Pet Proactive offer cover from £4,000 to £12,000 per annum and whichever policy you choose all come with the following features:

🐾 Complete medical cover, including dental illness*

🐾 Any treatment or referral we prescribe is covered up to your policy limit

🐾 Here at Broad Lane Vets, we will process your claims directly, so you don't need to worry about paying the balance to us if you're insured with Pet Proactive.

🐾 A clear and simple policy which confirms any pre-existing condition exclusions at the start

🐾 Premiums are reasonably priced and Pet Proactive will never increase your premium just because you've made a claim.

🐾 Unlike most policies where you may need to pay an excess per condition, per year, with Pet Proactive you are only asked to pay one excess of £100 a year irrespective of how many conditions you are claiming for, up to your annual policy limit.

🐾 Treatment through another vet practice is included if you are away from home.

Find out more and get instant prices for your pets under 6: https://www.broadlanevets.co.uk/payment-and-pet-insurance/pet-proactive-and-broad-lane-vets/

*as long as your pet does not already have pre-existing dental problems.

Please note- policies must be started before the pet is 6 years old.

Our brave little patient 💚🐾

Meet Roberts, a handsome 4-month-old guinea pig who visited us recently for his castration procedure with our vet Chloe. He was an absolute superstar throughout the day and has been recovering well with plenty of TLC from our team.
Roberts is looking forward to an exciting reunion with his female companions in a few weeks' time, once he is no longer fertile. Until then, he'll be enjoying some well-deserved rest and recovery!
We loved having this little character in with us.

Here are some adorable photos of Roberts, including a post-op snack time where he's being syringe fed by our nurse Sophie.

Please join us in wishing Roberts a smooth recovery!

⚽️🐾 Match day predictions from some of our staff pets (and 2 willing puppies!)!

Ten dogs and one very determined cat took part in our England vs Norway challenge: two treats, two flags, and varying levels of rule‑following 🤣

After much enthusiasm, hesitation, dramatic sniffing and only a little cheating…

England 🏴 7 – Norway 🇳🇴 4

A huge thank‑you to our furry prediction panel for their hard work 💚

🌿 Green Team Update: July 2026
Our Green Team has been busy, and this month, some of our staff pets have stepped in to help show off the small, meaningful changes we’re making across the practice.
From watering plants to sorting recycling (…or at least trying to), they’ve been excellent ambassadors for greener living.

Swipe through to meet our eco‑helpers and see what we’ve been working on:
💧 A very helpful dog keeping the plants hydrated
🍎 A curious pooch supervising food‑waste recycling
♻️ A superstar pup delivering plastic bottles to the recycling bin
📦 And one enthusiastic recycler who got a little too involved with a cardboard box

Behind the scenes, our Green Team has been:
Joining the WeCan initiative to recycle aluminium cans for charity
Donating unused medications and consumables to the Vets in Africa Project
Improving recycling of printer consumables, food waste and packaging
Reducing plastic use and supporting local suppliers
Cutting down on paper by offering emailed invoices at our Balsall Common and Radford Road sites
Lowering energy use by switching off lights when rooms aren’t in use
Improving waste separation across the practice

We’re proud of the progress so far - and this is only the beginning. If you have ideas or local initiatives we could support, we’d love to hear from you.

Together, we can make greener choices for the pets, people and planet we care about. 💚

Nigel’s morning walk mishap 🐾💚

Nigel the Cocker Spaniel came in after his morning walk suddenly painful around his ears and not wanting anyone to touch them. A quick check revealed the culprit: a grass seed lodged deep inside his ear (check out the video if you dare!).

He’s now feeling much better (and looking very handsome in his post‑op photo) but grass seeds can cause trouble in lots of places.

Grass seeds are tiny, sharp, and designed to travel. At this time of year, we see them in ears, paws, eyes, skin, and even inhaled into the nose or throat.

Here’s what to watch for after a walk:
- Sudden head‑shaking
- Ear pain or not wanting their head touched
- Persistent paw‑licking
- Red, squinty eye
- New swelling that appears quickly
- Sneezing or coughing - especially if it starts suddenly after being outdoors
- Visible grass awns caught in fur, especially between toes

Grass seeds don’t show up on X‑rays and can migrate fast, so early treatment makes a big difference. If your pet has a sudden “something’s not right” moment after a walk, give us a call.

Nigel is back to his cheerful self — and we’re here if your dog needs us too.
