EQUINE VETERINARY TECHNICIAN
ROS Equine Veterinary Services Ltd
Sports Medicine • Lameness • Performance
ROS Equine is looking for an enthusiastic and capable Equine Veterinary Technician to join our team.
With our current veterinary technician heading to university, we are looking for someone to take over this important role within our busy ambulatory sports medicine and lameness practice.
This is not a conventional clinic-based position. The successful applicant will work closely alongside our veterinary surgeons, assisting with the investigation and treatment of sport horses across the UK and, at times, throughout Europe.
The Role
The position will include:
* Assisting with lameness and poor-performance investigations
* Handling horses during examinations and procedures
* Assisting with diagnostic imaging, including digital radiography and ultrasonography
* Preparing equipment and horses for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
* Assisting with regenerative medicine and sports medicine treatments
* Setting up and maintaining veterinary and imaging equipment
* Driving and maintaining veterinary vehicles
* Stock management and preparation for ambulatory calls
* Cleaning, maintaining and organising clinical equipment
* Helping ensure that busy veterinary days run efficiently
* Assisting at competition and performance yards
* Occasional travel throughout the UK and Europe
Full training will be provided for the veterinary and technical aspects of the position.
Who We’re Looking For
We are particularly interested in someone who is:
* Very confident and experienced around competition horses
* Practical, organised and able to think ahead
* Reliable and punctual
* Comfortable working long and sometimes unpredictable days
* Happy working outdoors and travelling extensively
* Calm and professional around clients
* Able to work independently as well as part of a small team
* Physically capable of handling horses and veterinary equipment
* Keen to learn and develop within equine sports medicine
Previous veterinary experience would be advantageous but is not essential. A strong equestrian background, excellent horse-handling skills and the right attitude are more important, as comprehensive training can be provided.
A full UK driving licence is essential.
About ROS Equine
ROS Equine is an independent ambulatory veterinary practice with a particular focus on equine sports medicine, lameness and performance.
Our work takes us from private yards and professional competition establishments to international competition environments, with clients throughout the UK and Europe.
This role would suit someone who wants to become genuinely involved in the day-to-day running of a progressive sports medicine practice rather than simply occupying a traditional support role.
There is significant opportunity to develop practical skills and experience in equine veterinary sports medicine and diagnostic imaging.
The Position
Full-time position
Based primarily in West Sussex, with extensive travel according to the veterinary diary.
Salary will be competitive and dependent upon experience.
The role will involve some early starts, late finishes and occasional overnight stays. Flexibility is therefore important, but equally we want the successful applicant to become a valued, long-term member of the ROS Equine team.
To Apply
Please send a CV and a short introduction about yourself, including your equestrian background and why you think the role would suit you.
