🐾 A new chapter for Elaine Power Dog Training 🐾
Many of you have been following my work with dogs for some time, and I'm delighted to share a new area of training that I'm now developing alongside my existing work.
I've completed specialist medical-alert training for instructors, adding to my background as a qualified Veterinary Nurse and my HND in Canine Behaviour.
I'm now developing my private work in assistance-dog training, including medical-alert and diabetic-alert training, alongside my work with puppies and adolescent dogs.
This is something I'm particularly passionate about because assistance-dog training isn't simply about teaching a dog a task. It involves developing the whole dog — confidence, focus, reliability, environmental skills, appropriate behaviour and, just as importantly, the relationship and communication between dog and handler.
I'm currently putting these skills into practice with my first client .. "Toast" a Labrador puppy, who is being developed towards diabetic-alert work. 🐕‍🦺
I'll be sharing that journey here, including the successes, the challenges and the training that happens behind the scenes.
I'll also be offering private 1-to-1 training in Northern Ireland for suitable dogs and handlers, including:

Little Toast is smashing his early training!
Mostly we are seeing what he is comfortable with, and what he finds unsettling.
When he's fully fledged he will be expected to lie down in busy places and remain neutral.
And why not add in manners with food to make it normal not to get over enthusiastic when treats are handed out?
