I am super excited to be hosting Afan Adventure Dog on 23 October to run an Outdoor Canine First Aid course in Congleton.

There are just a few spaces remaining!

Book at link in my bio :)

OUTDOOR CANINE FIRST AID

Are you working as a dog care professional?

Do you work with dogs outdoors?

Do you walk your dog in woods, mountains & other difficult to access locations?

Have you attended a canine first aid course taught in a classroom or online but still feel unprepared should an incident occur??

Then this course is for you!!

Dogs are rarely going to injure themselves seriously in the home or garden where getting them to professional help & the vets is easier.

This session will give you the tools, knowledge, skills and practical experience of dealing & handling emergency situations for when your dog or a dog in your care injures themselves by just being a dog!

If you want to be prepared for your adventure with your best friend then this is a must!

Some of the topics covered are...

๐Ÿพ Managing an incident in the outdoors
๐Ÿพ Checking and understanding vital signs
๐Ÿพ Dealing with unconsciousness
๐Ÿพ CPR
๐Ÿพ Drowning
๐Ÿพ Choking
๐Ÿพ Bleeding & injuries
๐Ÿพ Shock
๐Ÿพ Emergency transport techniques
๐Ÿพ Dealing with an aggressive/confused dog
๐Ÿพ Scenario incident management practice

Plus much much more

This course is delivered through hands on practical experience not death by power point.

As we hit heatwave number 5 (!!!) of 2026 I have had lots of people asking if we are still trailing this summer.

It isn't a straightforward answer- it depends on how hot it is, humidity levels and whether we can adapt sessions and adjust plans.

One of the best things we can do is keep the dogs cool in the car between their turns- aluminet sheets, fans and plenty of water can help.

Adjusting session plans to trail in the coolest part of the day and using shady venues like forests can help.

But sometimes it is just too hot and we have to postpone sessions- bored dogs are better than overheated dogs.

We had so much fun doing a barn hunt trial today- Finn did a super job finding all the rats.

As I sit inside with the spaniels hiding from the heatwave, I thought I would do a little throwback to the final session of the Intro to Tracking Course.

The teams all made excellent progress over the three weeks of the course, with both dogs and handlers growing in confidence in their tracking skills.

They are all on their own individual journeys, so each team's progress looked different - but it was a real joy to work with them all in developing their progression plans, and I can't wait to see their next steps.

Check out the link in my bio if you want to join a future session.

Had a really excellent weekend with Jo Armstrong working on my own tracking and trailing. I became an instructor because I love working my dogs and have seen the difference it has made in keeping them fulfilled and happy dogs. I love keeping my skills abd knowledge up to date.
It was really great to have a new pair of eyes on Ronan and I as a partnership. Really great feedback- loads of stuff to reflect on and process- some new stuff and some stuff I already new but needed reminding of! And great to get Jo's perspective as an operational handler.
We also had every weather - so typical summer trailing in the UK.
Thanks so much to for organising.
Thanks to for the excellent pics of me and Ronan.
