It is important to look after your pets during this hot weather.
There are many things you can do that cost very little or nothing at all.

🐾 Provide plenty of fresh water

* Keep water bowls topped up and in shaded areas.
* Add extra water stations around the home and garden.
* Drop a few ice cubes into bowls to keep water cooler.

🐾 Create cool resting areas

* Keep curtains closed during the hottest part of the day.
* Open windows (securely) to improve airflow.
* Use cool kitchen or bathroom tiles as resting spots.
* Dampen a towel with cool water for pets to lie on.

🐾 Adjust exercise times

* Walk dogs early in the morning or late in the evening.
* Avoid strenuous exercise during the hottest hours (typically 11am–4pm).
* Reduce the length and intensity of walks when temperatures are high.

🐾 Protect paws

* Test pavements with the back of your hand for 5 seconds. If it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for paws.
* Walk on grass where possible.

🐾 Offer cooling treats

* Freeze pet-safe treats or food in ice cube trays.
* Freeze low-salt broth or wet food for a cooling snack.
* Stuff and freeze toys for longer-lasting enrichment.

🐾 Never leave pets in vehicles

* Even with windows open, temperatures inside a vehicle can become fatal within minutes.

🐾 Provide shade outdoors

* Use existing trees, hedges, parasols, or tarpaulins.
* Ensure outdoor pets always have somewhere shaded to retreat to.

🐾 Know the signs of heatstroke
Watch for:

* Excessive panting
* Drooling
* Lethargy
* Vomiting
* Staggering or collapse

With temperatures set to hit 36 here mid week, I'd thought I'd share this again 🌞

Whilst I agree with this image for a normal pooch, as you know we need to be extra vigilant with the Dogue de Bordeaux and any other brachycephalic breed, whether they are large or smaller like a Frenchie.

I won't walk mine over 18 degrees, that is my cut off and I'm sure you all have slightly different temperatures and situations that you and your dog are comfortable with. 18 degrees is mine and even though all of our walks are in woodland and shaded, its the humidity that people often underestimate!!

I have fans galore and cool coats on standby, with paddling pools already out and in use πŸ˜€ (Piglet loves hers so much, she used it all winter πŸ˜‚)

So please drop your top tips below for keeping dogs cool and even better if you have a pic of your pups staying cool 😎
