PEARL💚
TPLO surgery 🩺

Swipe through to follow this lovely Labrador’s TPLO journey, from being in surgery, to just waking up from anaesthesia, and her final post-operative check! 🐶

TPLO is a surgical procedure used to treat cranial cruciate ligament disease, one of the most common causes of hindlimb lameness in dogs.

A TPLO changes the angle of the tibial plateau (the top of the shin bone) to stabilise the knee during weight-bearing. The bone is secured in its new position using a metal plate and screws, allowing it to heal over time.

Recovery involves carefully managed, restricted exercise and regular post-operative checks to monitor healing and progress.

We’re delighted that Pearl is doing so well that she’s now been signed off! A huge well done to her and her owners for all their hard work throughout her recovery. 💚🐾

🎆FIREWORKS: TOP TIPS FOR KEEPING YOUR PETS CALM! 🎆

Firework season can be a stressful time for our furry friends, but there are a few things you can do to help them feel safe and comfortable! 🐶🐱

✨ Create a safe den – Give your pet a quiet, enclosed space where they can retreat if they feel anxious or scared.

🐱 Keep cats indoors – Make sure your cats are safely inside, with plenty of litter trays available, especially near their usual exit points.

🎶 Muffle the noise – Put the TV on or play some calming music, and close windows and draw curtains to help reduce the sound of fireworks.

🧘🏼Stay calm yourself – Try to remain calm and reassure your pet gently without over-fussing. Your pet may take comfort from you, so keep things as normal as possible.

🐕 Burn off extra energy – Take your dog for a longer walk earlier in the day, before fireworks are likely to start.

🕒 Maintain your routine – Keep feeding times and other daily routines as consistent as possible to help your pet feel secure.

🌙 Avoid walking dogs at night – Where possible, opt for morning or lunchtime walks when fireworks are less likely. Always keep your dog on a lead if there’s a risk of fireworks nearby.

📅 Prepare in advance – If your pet struggles with fireworks, speak to our team or a qualified behaviourist well in advance. There may be ways to help them feel less anxious before firework season arrives.

STANLEY💚

This handsome Corgi came to us for a cryptorchid castration. Cryptorchidism is when one or both testicles haven’t descended into the sc***um and remain within the abdomen or groin.🍒

Using our laparoscopic equipment, we were able to quickly locate and remove his retained abdominal testicle through a small incision.🩺

Removing a retained testicle is important as cryptorchid testicles have an increased risk of complications, including testicular tumours (neoplasia) and torsion, where the testicle can twist and cut off its own blood supply.

He bounced back well and was very happy to see us again for his post-op check! (As you can see in the last picture!)💚

Medical Detection Dogs carries out life-changing work across the UK, training amazing dogs to detect disease and provide support to people with complex medical conditions.

We’re incredibly proud to be caring for these wonderful dogs and to play a small part in supporting the amazing work they do. 💚

This handsome boy came in for a routine dental and was an absolute superstar from start to finish.

A clean set of pearly whites, lots of cuddles, and back home with a fresher smile.🤩

🎉WINNERS🎉

Congratulations to our lucky winners, Tasha & Penny (and their lovely owner!) for winning our Fortnum & Mason hamper! 🥳

The girls popped in today to collect their prize and, of course, they couldn’t leave empty-pawed🐾 They each received their own little goodie bag of treats, enjoyed plenty of fuss, and lots of excited sniffing!

Thank you to everyone who entered our competition and tagged us in your gorgeous pet photos. We loved seeing them all! And thank you to Tasha and Penny for posing so beautifully with their winnings💚

ARNIE & LUNA💚

Double trouble or double the cuteness? 🐾

These two adorable Miniature Schnauzers came in for matching dentals, matching lump removals, and of course left in matching medical pet shirts. We couldn’t resist a little photoshoot before they headed home! 📸

Lump removals are a common procedure and can be recommended if a lump is growing, causing discomfort, or simply to find out exactly what it is. Removing a lump also allows it to be sent for testing if needed, helping us provide the best care for your pet.

Both of them were shinning stars for their procedures and in front of the camera🐶

ACUPUNCTURE😌

A touch of zen for our patients🧘

Did you know our vet Joanna can perform veterinary acupuncture for your dog or cat?

Acupuncture involves placing very fine needles into specific points on the body to help stimulate the nervous system, improve blood flow, encourage the release of natural pain-relieving chemicals, and support healing.

It can be used alongside other treatments to help manage conditions such as arthritis, joint and muscle pain, mobility issues, and some neurological conditions.

And judging by these happy faces, we’d say it’s a patient favourite! 💚 Plenty of tail wags, relaxed smiles, and lots of content pets by the end of their sessions.

Safe, gentle, and surprisingly calming, acupuncture can be a wonderful addition to your pet’s treatment plan.🐶🐱
