Exciting update — Our New Veterinary Practice Is Taking Shape!

As promised, we’re sharing some latest pictures of the building works on our brand new veterinary practice, The Colchester Vets, and we couldn’t be more excited to share this journey with you.

Our new space is being designed with pets, owners, and our team in mind — creating a modern, welcoming environment.

🐾 Colchester Pet Awards 2026 — entries are open! 🐾

We’re delighted to share that our very own Dr Joanna Rodak-Smith MRCVS, Veterinary Surgeon and Founder of The Colchester Vets, will be part of the judging panel for this year’s Colchester Pet Awards.

These new community-led awards celebrate the powerful bond between pets and people, recognising meaningful local stories of resilience, companionship, care and responsible ownership.

Categories include:
🏆 Community and Character Award
🏆 Rescue Success Story Award
🏆 Behaviour Breakthrough Award
🏆 Young Handler Award
🏆 Golden Years Award

The awards are open to dogs, cats, horses, small animals, reptiles and other companion pets across Colchester and surrounding CO1–CO6 postcodes.
Every entry needs a written story and a photo, and winners will receive a certificate, trophy, social media coverage and the chance for their story to be shared with the Colchester Gazette.

There’s been lots happening behind the scenes at The Colchester Vets, and it’s great to see real progress on site.

With the internal demolition now complete, the builders have started putting walls back in, and first fix mechanical and electrical works are now underway.

It’s exciting to see the building beginning to take shape and for the vision for the practice to feel more real with every step forward.

We’ll be sharing the plans and some internal progress pictures soon, and we’re looking forward to bringing you along as the project continues.

We’re building something special at The Colchester Vets and we’re looking for a vet to join us ahead of our opening in August.

This is a chance to be part of something from the very beginning, working alongside Joanna and Chris to help grow a new independent practice in Colchester.

Our new site will be fully equipped with CT, laparoscopy, endoscopy, dental radiography and conventional radiography, giving you the tools to deliver a fantastic standard of care from day one.

But just as important is the way we want to work.

As a new independent practice, this role offers true clinical freedom and the chance to help shape the kind of practice you want to be part of. One where decisions are made for the right reasons, where patients and clients come first, and where great care is delivered with warmth, kindness and common sense.

We’re looking for someone who wants to do excellent work, be part of a supportive team, and help build a practice that offers something genuinely different.

We’re really pleased to announce the opening of The Colchester Vets – a new independent veterinary practice for the people and pets of Colchester.

Today, we’re delighted to introduce Joanna Rodak and Chris Goetschel as the founders of the practice. Joanna and Chris bring a wealth of experience, a deep connection to the local area, and a shared passion for creating a practice with the right values at its heart from day one.

Together, they are creating something special: a modern practice built on trust, kindness, personal relationships, and exceptional clinical care. As a founder-led team, they are shaping a practice that keeps the warmth and traditional values of a local vet, while offering a genuine alternative for pet owners in Colchester.
