Keyhole Spays at Mayne Vets 🐾

One of the services we’re proud to offer is laparoscopic (keyhole) spaying.

🔹 Smaller incisions – meaning less disruption to the abdominal wall

🔹 A more comfortable recovery for many patients

Instead of one larger incision, the procedure is performed through small keyhole openings using a camera and specialised instruments. This allows our vet, Charlotte, to see inside the abdomen clearly and carry out the procedure with precision.

For us, investing in this technology isn't simply about having the latest equipment. It's about continually looking at how we can improve the experience and care our patients receive.

That's absolutely fine! You don't need to be a Mayne Vets client to have a laparoscopic spay with us.

Veterinary teams are often there for people on some of the hardest days they experience with their pets. We talk about frightening diagnoses, unexpected costs, treatment options and difficult decisions. We help families through emergencies and, sometimes, we help them say goodbye.

And while we are caring for your pet, we are also navigating the realities of veterinary life — financial pressures, workload, staffing, burnout, compassion fatigue, client expectations, complaints and an ever-changing profession.

The veterinary profession is one where the emotional load can be incredibly high. Veterinary surgeons in the UK have su***de rates around 3–4 times those of the general population, highlighting just how important it is that we talk about mental health within our profession.

So, the next time you visit your vets, take a moment to remember the person behind the profession.

💙Say thank you if they've helped you and your pet.
💙Be patient if your appointment is running late — there may be another pet needing urgent care.
💙Remember that difficult conversations are difficult for them too.
💙If you're worried about the cost of treatment, talk openly with the team — these conversations can be uncomfortable for everyone.
💙Remember there is a person on the other side of the conversation. Raising concerns respectfully gives everyone a chance to listen and improve.

Dry eye in dogs, also known as keratoconjunctivitis sicca (KCS), is a life-long condition where the dog's eyes don't produce enough tears, leading to dryness, discomfort, and potential vision problems.

Book in to see one of our veterinary nurses for a free eye test worth £34* this September (terms and conditions apply) to assess your dog's tear production. Should there be any concerns, you will be referred to a vet to discuss the next steps and how to manage dry eye.
