🎆 FIREWORK NIGHT IS COMING… LET’S HELP OUR PETS FEEL CALMER! 🎃🐾

Halloween and Bonfire Night can be exciting for us, but for our dogs and cats, unexpected bangs, flashing lights and unfamiliar noises can be frightening. ❤️

If you have a new puppy, rescue dog or kitten, it’s especially important to help them feel safe while they settle into their new home.

🐶 A few simple tips to prepare:

🏡 Create a safe haven – Set up a cosy bed or quiet hiding place where your pet can retreat whenever they need to.

🌙 Walk before dark – Try to finish walks and toilet trips before fireworks begin. If your dog needs to go out after dark, keep them securely on a lead, even in your garden, in case they get spooked and bolt. A scared pet will get out even if it means climbing a 6ft fence!

🐱 Keep cats indoors – Bring them in before dark, close the cat flap and provide a litter tray.

🔒 Secure your home – Check doors, windows and gates, ensure microchip details are up to date, and make sure your dog has an ID tag.

📺 Mask the bangs – Close curtains and put the TV or some gentle music on at a comfortable volume. Avoid using loud firework videos to try to get your pet used to the noise at the last minute.

❤️ Let them feel safe – Stay calm and never force them out of their hiding place or tell them off for being frightened.

For a small business from Thorrington, just being shortlisted is a huge win for us. To see our name alongside some of the best in the UK pet industry is something we honestly never imagined when we started out.

Hilltop Pet Food was born during lockdown, when our boarding kennels fell silent almost overnight and we had to find a new way forward. It was our local customers who got behind us in those early days, and it’s because of you that we now deliver to dogs and cats all over the UK. 🐾

🐶 Sky is just 7 months old and popped in to make her kennels booking and pick up some raw food… but she had lots of important sniffing to do first! 😂

There was a whole shop full of new smells to investigate! 🥩

We think She approved of her little visit!
