🐾 Professional Dog Grooming....... There’s More To It Than You Think! 🐾

Dog grooming is not just about giving a dog a bath, a trim and making them look lovely. There is a lot of knowledge and responsibility behind every groom.

A professionally trained groomer needs to understand how to handle dogs safely, recognise signs of stress or discomfort, know how different coat types should be cared for, choose the right tools and products and maintain a clean and safe working environment.

Most importantly, they need to know how to put the dog’s welfare first throughout the whole groom. ❤️🐶

These are all things our students learn as part of their City & Guilds training at Tails. It is about learning not only how to groom, but how to do it safely, responsibly and with the right knowledge behind you.

🐾 Breed Focus: The Schnauzer 🐾

With their unmistakable bushy eyebrows, whiskers and beard, there is no mistaking a Schnauzer!

Originally from Germany, the Standard Schnauzer is the original of the three breeds and was a versatile farm dog, helping with jobs including catching rats and herding livestock.

From the Standard came two very different Schnauzers. The Giant was developed to be a bigger, stronger working dog, while the Miniature was bred smaller and went on to become a hugely popular companion.

And did you know the name Schnauzer comes from German and means ‘whiskered snout’? One look at that famous face and you can see why! 🐶

Breed Focus: Pomeranians

Pomeranians are the smallest of the Spitz breeds. Lively, bright little dogs with that classic alert expression. Their double coat, a dense, soft undercoat with a harsher outer coat needs correct brushing, de shedding and careful drying to protect coat health.

We’re looking for more Pomeranians as model dogs to support our student training. If your Pom needs grooming, they can enjoy discounted rates while helping our learners gain hands on experience.
