This is so very true.
I tell so many of my clients to get out of the books to spend less time trying to learn how to improve skills and more time trying to be more “horse “ we have to think like them, breath with them and try to work with them.

Not because the lion would lack words.
But because his entire world — his experience of reality itself — is fundamentally different from ours.
I often think about this sentence when I work with horses.
Modern humans tend to believe that language is the highest form of intelligence. We assume that if an animal cannot explain itself in words, then its inner world must somehow be simpler, smaller, or less meaningful.
But horses remind us every single day how limited that assumption really is.
A horse does not experience the world through abstract concepts, philosophy, politics, status, or social media.
It experiences rhythm.
Presence.
Tension.
Energy.
Safety.
Movement.
Attention.
Trust.
A horse reads what we often cannot even perceive in ourselves.
The slightest change in breathing.
The smallest hesitation.
The shift of balance before movement even begins.
The emotional state hidden beneath the mask of human language.
That is why true horsemanship can never be reduced to technique alone.
You can learn every aid.
You can memorize every training scale.
You can study biomechanics for decades.
And still never truly communicate with a horse.
Because real communication with horses does not happen primarily through commands.
It happens through participation in their world.
This is where Wittgenstein becomes so fascinating.
He believed that understanding is not simply about translating words. Understanding depends on sharing a “form of life” — a common lived reality.
And horses live in a radically different reality from ours.
They do not think in human narratives of success and failure.
They do not care about titles.
They do not care about reputation.
They do not lie.
They do not flatter.
They do not pretend.
They respond to what is actually there.
That is why horses expose us so completely.

‼️‼️For all those attending tomorrows show jumping ‼️‼️

Due to a number of strangles cases in the area we ask for you all to be super vigilant. We want to you come and have fun but let’s be super careful.

Please follow these guidelines to keep everyone as safe as possible.

Please take your horses temperature and stay at home if your horse has any symptoms.

Please do not tie up at the side of the lorry or trailers.
Do not give hay nets outside Lorrie’s or trailers. For contaminated hay to be left behind. Make sure nets are given inside your vehicle.

Please try not to let horses touch noses with one another. Keep social distancing.

Warm up will be in the xc field so plenty of space between all competitors. Please keep yourselves in your own spaces.

Use your own equipment and buckets and do not share or use those on the yard.

Avoid grazing areas where other horses may graze.

Please use our club house to socialise when not mounted.

Prize giving will be dismounted to avoid horses coming in close proximity in the arena.

Hand soap and washing facilities are in both our toilets. Please feel free to use them.

Try not to touch and pet other people’s horses and please don’t give anyone else’s horses your horses treats.

Let’s enjoy the sunshine but stay as safe as we can by remembering to keep your distance.

Thank you in advance.

APPRENTICESHIP SUCCESSES

It’s time to congratulate the successful completion of two of our apprentices. Neither will need any introduction as they are embedded members of our team.

Amelia Butters our head groom and trainee coach passed her level three grooms diploma. This is a management level qualification and requires the apprentice to run sections of the yard. I am delighted that Amelia passed with flying colours, achieving distinction in many areas including her riding and professional discussion.

Lilly Ives most of you know as my competition groom but also Amelia’s right hand man, passed her level two grooms diploma with Distinction in all areas. She received outstanding feedback from her assessor and as a young person whom school didn’t really agree with it just goes to show how beneficial the apprenticeship program can be in supporting these individuals in finding their way into the working environment.

I am also extremely delighted to say that currently both these fabulous individuals are planning to stay in the Hemps Green team and continue to further their careers via the BHS assessment route.

Amelia working towards her stage three coach and stage four and Lilly towards her coaching level two and her stage three.

Please join me in applauding these two for their hard work dedication and deserved success. With the cold wet dark winter we have had their commitment and desire to please deserves just reward.

WELL DONE GIRLS WE ARE VERY PROUD OF YOU!

Tuesdays are often assessment days for the staff at Hemps Green. Here you can see the horses lined up with our team of staff awaiting their riders.
We always plait horses for dressage assessments and it’s great practice for the staff to plait, trim and turn out the horses.

It makes Mondays pretty busy hence we don’t have lessons on a Monday but I am sure you will agree my team of staff have done a great job with the horses and the horses are all looking fabulous.
