āŒNever make the mistake of thinking your dog SHOULD be ok with something.

šŸ¶Even the simple act of putting on a harness can be traumatic for some dogs.

šŸ‘‰šŸ»create positive associations like this early when then harness is neither positive or negative for the dog and never assume your dog will be fine

ā€¼ļøif your dog is already anxious of a harness you will need to work on desensitising and counter conditioning first! Try not to lure your dog into uncomfortable situations.

Before a dog can safely enjoy offā€‘lead time, they need:

Consistent checkā€‘ins

A history of reinforcement for choosing you

Confidence navigating the environment

The ability to disengage from distractions

Most dogs donā€™t struggle with recallā€¦ they struggle with engagement.
If your dog isnā€™t connecting with you onā€‘lead, they wonā€™t magically do it offā€‘lead.

āž”ļø Many videos you see where a dogs ā€œbad behaviourā€ is being shown as an example of ā€œbefore trainingā€ are setup to cause stress to the dog or put them in uncomfortable situations
āž”ļø My priority is the client and their dog - NOT shooting videos
āž”ļø Animal welfare will always be my priority
āž”ļø Donā€™t be fooled by edited, short videos or think a bloke yanking on a lead, results in a long term positive bond between dog and owner

Donā€™t expect your dog to settle in an exciting new environment if they havenā€™t been exercised, played with, brain trained etc or are thirsty, hot, uncomfortable or stressed. . Look after their needs and that will in turn help you all relax on the beach
