Not posted my wee dogs for a wee bit as i was keeping them cool in the morning and cancelling grooms in the afternoon, but today i managed to do a full day
Abbey was in for a desensitation i worked on her wee legs and feet today, she is coping so well and loves breaks with treats and her ball
Poppy was in for her wash and deshed, poppy comes in and just loves getting her wee pamper session and loves a wee kiss and cuddle
Chester was in for to get a wee couple of matts removed, he is so unsure of the grooming process but coped so well
Daisy was in for a full groom but with the hut heating up i only done a wee clip on her. She has started getting unsure about grooming after going into season so i am working with her to build her confidence again
So proud of you all today and look forward to seeing you all again soon

Please stop walking your dogs in this heat

An update on yesterdays heatstroke dog.

Well firstly he’s alive! Thank goodness. Let me tell you the whole process of heat and our dogs…

When dogs overheat they use a lot of glucose in the act of cooling themselves and therefore need sugar! We actively cool them and stop at 39.5c to avoid hypothermia. But even with this the gut takes a massive hit.

For this dog bacteria leaked from the gut into the blood stream. The result was sepsis that kicked in around 90 minutes of returning to a more normal temperature.

The fight is firstly to control the body temperature and stop the brain from literally frying. Then it’s a fight to control sepsis in these severe cases.

Well after a lot of work from multiple vets and nurses he is looking like he’ll live to tell the tale. Such an unlucky dog to be put in that situation in the first place, but such a lucky one to have survived it.

I will constantly force this upon people to try get them to stop walking dogs in this heat.
This is a top tip to keep dogs cool. Please never put the towel onto the dog as this will trap in heat and so dangerous for the dog

Watching people walk there dogs in this heat really gets to me because there are so many dangers for these dogs

Heatstroke in Dogs – It Can Happen Faster Than You Think

As the weather warms up, it's important to remember that dogs can overheat very quickly. Heatstroke is a medical emergency and can become life-threatening if not treated promptly.

Signs of heatstroke include: • Excessive panting • Thick, sticky drool • Bright red or very pale gums • Lethargy or weakness • Vomiting or diarrhoea • Staggering or collapsing • Confusion or seizures

How to help prevent it: • Walk your dog during the cooler parts of the day. • Always provide fresh drinking water. • Make sure they have access to shade. • Avoid hot pavements that can burn paws. • Never leave your dog in a parked car – even for a few minutes.

If you think your dog has heatstroke: Move them to a cool, shaded area, gently cool them with cool (not ice-cold) water, offer small amounts of water if they are alert, and contact your vet immediately.

I wish people would learn not to walk there dogs in this heat. These people do not deserve these loving dogs

I have made the decision to reschedule all afternoon grooms, the temperature in my hut is very warm and dont want them travelling in a warm car to get to me. Thank you so much for understanding

Please if you are coming to your grooming appointment by car please make sure it is well air conditioned for the wee dog. I have fans in my hut to cool it down but if it gets too warm i will reschedule

As the temperature has to rise this week i have put a wee list of dogs that often get overlooked when it comes to being educated about the risk of heat to their health. We all know the heat is dangerous to our flat faced dogs but these ones people just simply forget about.

I will be monitoring the hut to make sure it will be nice and cool for the dogs and if i need to reschedule i will send you a message as your dogs health matters to me more
