UPDATE:

Our mystery lady had an operation for her fracture yesterday. It was a very challenging operation as the fracture ran the full length of her femur, and a very big thank you to OrthoVet, also known as John Joyce, for providing his orthopaedic skills. She is a model patient and she is so timid and well-mannered.

This lady was brought in this afternoon from Ballygudden Road, Eglinton, having been involved in a road traffic accident. She is not microchipped and appears quite young, maybe 2 years old. She has a broken hind leg (femur) and a collapsed lung. We have provided emergency care and comfort but would really need to trace her owner. Please ring the surgery on 02871338777 if you can be of any help identifying her.

A member of the public recently brought us a young House Martin that wasn't yet ready to fly.

After observing the bird for some time, there was no sign of its parents returning. With cats in the area posing a risk, the finder contacted the USPCA for advice before bringing the bird to us.

We hand-fed and cared for this little House Martin for a couple of weeks until it was strong enough to return to the USPCA, where it was released alongside other young House Martins.

If you find a baby bird on the ground, please don't assume it has been abandoned. Every situation is different, and the best course of action depends on the bird's age and condition.

For advice on what to do, please visit www.uspca.co.uk.
