September is here and with the change of season comes a few things to keep an eye on with our pets. ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ‚

Autumn checklist:

๐ŸŒƒ Keep dogs visible on darker walks with reflective or light-up accessories.

๐Ÿพ Check paws after walks for small cuts, grass seeds or anything caught between the toes.

๐ŸชณKeep flea and tick protection up to date โ€“ these little pests donโ€™t disappear just because summer is ending!

๐Ÿฆด If your pet has stiff or achy joints, you may notice them becoming a little more uncomfortable as the weather changes. If you spot a change in their movement or behaviour, please get in touch with our team.

And, of course, September still brings plenty of opportunities for adventures!

What has your pet been up to this week? Share a photo in the comments โ€“ weโ€™d love to see them! ๐Ÿ“ธ๐Ÿฉต

Good luck on your travels, Evie! โœˆ๏ธ๐ŸŒ

Last Friday we said a very sad goodbye to our lovely vet, Evie, as she heads off on an exciting new adventure travelling the world!

Evie has been a much-loved member of the Haven team and will be greatly missed by all of us, as well as by so many of our regular clients and patients.

Thank you, Evie, for everything youโ€™ve brought to the team and for all the care youโ€™ve given to our patients along the way.

We hope you have the most amazing time travelling, making lots of wonderful memories and enjoying every minute of your adventure!

We will miss you! ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Can you spot the ulcer? ๐Ÿฑ

This striking green glow is a fluorescein stain, a dye we use to help diagnose corneal ulcers.

A corneal ulcer is a scratch or wound on the clear surface of the eye. They can be caused by trauma, foreign material, infections or other eye problems.

When fluorescein dye is applied to the eye, it sticks to areas where the cornea has been damaged. Under a blue light, the ulcer lights up bright green, just like you can see in this photo. ๐Ÿ’š

Signs of an eye ulcer can include:

* ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Squinting or keeping the eye closed
* ๐Ÿ’ง Excessive watering or discharge
* ๐Ÿ”ด Redness
* ๐Ÿพ Rubbing or pawing at the eye
* โ˜๏ธ A cloudy or unusual-looking eye

Eye problems can deteriorate quickly, so a sore or closed eye should always be checked promptly. With the right diagnosis and treatment, many uncomplicated ulcers heal very well.

๐Ÿ“ธ Our star patient here is Olive, a 3 year old cat who presented with a swollen eye. Olive has been started on eye drops and pain relief for the treatment of her ulcer.

Meet gorgeous Tilly & Sid, 15-week-old partners in crime who came to see us for their second vaccinations and microchips. ๐Ÿ’‰

They were such brave little superstars. ๐ŸŒŸ

Did you know we offer dental X-rays in practice! ๐Ÿฆท๐Ÿพ

Dental x-rays help us provide an even more thorough assessment of your petโ€™s dental health.

A large part of each tooth sits below the gum line, where problems arenโ€™t always visible during a routine examination. Dental X-rays allow our veterinary team to see whatโ€™s happening beneath the surface and can help identify issues such as damaged tooth roots, hidden disease and other dental problems.

This means more accurate diagnoses and better-informed treatment decisions for our patients.

If you have any questions about your petโ€™s teeth or dental care, please speak to a member of our team.

๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑ Healthy teeth, happier pets!

๐Ÿ’™ A little bundle of blue-eyed perfection! ๐Ÿ’™

This gorgeous 13-week-old Ragdoll called Reggie came to visit us yesterday for his second vaccination and we couldnโ€™t resist sharing his adorable face! ๐Ÿ˜ป

Those beautiful blue eyes and fluffy little paws certainly made our day. He was such a sweet boy and did brilliantly for his vaccine. ๐Ÿ’‰โœจ

๐Ÿšจ๐ŸŒฟ GRASS SEEDS ARE EVERYWHERE! ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿšจ

๐Ÿพ TIP TUESDAY: CHECK THOSE PAWS!

Weโ€™re seeing LOADS of grass-seed cases at the practice this week, so this is your reminder to check your pet after every walk.

Grass seeds can become lodged between the digits (toes) causing pain, swelling and infection.

๐Ÿ”Ž After walks, check:
๐Ÿพ Between the digits
๐Ÿพ Around the paw pads
๐Ÿพ Around the nails
๐Ÿพ For any redness, swelling or soreness

โš ๏ธ Licking or chewing their paws? Limping? Swollen or sore paw? Donโ€™t ignore it โ€” your pet could have a grass seed.

๐Ÿ’š A 30-second paw check could save your pet a lot of pain.

Check those paws after every walk. ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿพ
