What started as a project to keep a farmer occupied while recovering from heart problems has helped raise an incredible £40,000 for charity. 🐂❤️

Former British Charolais Cattle Society president Steve Nesbitt created 'Rusty', a life-sized bull made entirely from welded metal chains, after being forced to step back from day-to-day farming.

After a summer touring agricultural shows and livestock markets, Rusty sold for 27,000gns at Stirling Bull Sales, helping take the fundraising total to about £40,000 for the British Heart Foundation and the MND Association.

A final post to celebrate World Vet Tech Week with British & Irish Veterinary Technicians Association - BIVTA

As a group of passionate farm vet practices we are always looking at ways to offer more to our clients. We know how tough it is out there at the moment, many of the CVS Farm team also have their own stock, or are involved in the family farm.

The true value of a Vet Tech is more than just a Vet Tech we want to offer our clients more that just a routine, more than just a health plan. By using our team of Vet Techs we are able to support our clients collecting data, watching cattle movement, marking sheep. We know that on farm there is endless data, but by using techs we have a way of collecting data and collaborating with our farmers to get the information that they want.

❄️ Freeze Branding ❄️
During World Vet Tech Week British & Irish Veterinary Technicians Association - BIVTA we are keen to showcase just a few of the skills that our great techs have!

We have a number of practices that are trained and able to Freeze Brand on farm. Freeze Branding is a common identification method that is used in dairy farms. As a division CVS Farm are keen to support all our clients, both clinically and also with tasks on the farm. By offering these additional services to our clients farmers are able to work with a team they know and trust.

What else do our # do?

🐛🐄🐑This week we are putting Vet Techs at the spot light at the centre of our attention. At CVS we encourage all our techs to also undergo their SQP training. This allows them to advise and prescribe a number of preventatives on farm- such as wormers and fly treatments.

To get accurate information and be able to give the best advice our Techs & SQPs will ask farmers for faecal samples so that we are able to use our in house lab equipment to run accurate tests to give us accurate results. 🐛🐄🐑

🐄🐄Our Vet Techs do a huge amount of work with calves, from sampling to disbudding, weighing, and colostrum testing. Our techs offer many additional services to farmers. Having healthy, fit calves is vital to their development and productivity in later life, and catching poor performance, early signs of illness, or general under-the-weather stock is key to this.🐄🐄

are able to work with our clients on scheduled weekly and monthly visits or simply as an ad hoc requirement. By knowing the signs early, we are able to work with farmers to ensure that we can make changes prior to the problems becoming too much!

Supporting World Vet Tech Week with - British & Irish Veterinary Technicians Association - BIVTA

At CVS Farm, our practices are all supported by Farm Vet Techs who are able to offer services to clients on farm, support our clinical teams, and many are SQPs who can prescribe a number of farm treatments.

By using Vet Techs, we are able to offer our clients that extra pair of hands at a time of need, or the ability to gain more data from stock.

Over the coming week, our practices will be sharing firsthand experiences of the life of a Vet Tech and what they get up to day-to-day - from sampling FEC to disbudding calves.

Another busy week for the team with a number of practices joining at National Sheep Association Tup Sale at Builth.
As always some great sheep on sale and we did well to persuade the team to not spend their money.

We have to remind clients more than ever this is the year to test. We are seeing a lot of sub fertile rams at the moment, which is one of the key side effects of BTV. We cannot stress enough the importance pre tupping to get new stock checked as you may otherwise be disappointed with performance!

Recent data in the Farmers Guardian outlines:
Semen Analysis Failures: Of the rams that underwent semen collection and microscopic analysis, only 52% passed. The remaining 48% produced poor-quality semen, rendering them entirely unsuitable for breeding at the time of testing.
