Behind every wagging tail and content purr there is a veterinary team giving their all. Long hours, complex cases and the constant wish to do the best for each patient can take a heavy toll. Burnout is real and many vet professionals carry it quietly. 💙

Kindness goes a long way. A simple thank you during your visit can lift our team’s spirits more than you realise.

When it comes to routine dog spays, we believe keyhole surgery is the gold standard.

That’s why all routine dog spays at Chalkland Vets are performed laparoscopically. We don’t offer traditional open spays because we want every patient to benefit from a less invasive approach wherever possible.

The benefits of a keyhole spay include:

🐾 Smaller incisions

🐾 Less pain and discomfort after surgery

🐾 Reduced trauma to the body

🐾 Faster recovery

🐾 Quicker return to normal activities

When it comes to our own pets, we wouldn’t settle for anything less than the very best, and that’s exactly the standard of care we strive to offer every patient who walks through our doors.

If you’d like to know more about laparoscopic surgery, get in touch with our team.

We understand how hard it can be for a pet to be diagnosed with a life-limiting condition. If this happens, palliative care can be a great option.

Palliative care focuses on easing pain, preserving dignity, and treasuring good days when a cure is not a possibility.

We treat each pet individually and tailor pain relief, appetite boosters, and anti-nausea medicines, and may show you how to give fluids or tablets at home.

Keeping a daily “good moments” diary can be helpful to spot subtle changes and assess your pet’s quality of life, and it can also be very useful when making difficult decisions.

Remember to take breaks, accept help, and that choosing comfort is an act of love. We are here to walk this path with you, with regular check-ins to provide medical guidance and answer any questions you might have. ❤️

🩷💙 A Little Brother, a Big Day & the Best Sister for Support! 🐾🥹

Meet the adorable Louie & Lulu! 🐶💕

Brave little Louie came in for his cryptorchid castration, and luckily, his lovely sister Lulu was right by his side to offer some much-needed moral support! 🩷💙

🩺 But what does cryptorchid mean?

Cryptorchidism is a condition where one or both testicles fail to descend into the sc***um and instead remain in the groin or abdomen.

Although it might sound unusual, it’s something we occasionally see in male dogs, and it’s important to treat because:

🐾 Retained testicles have an increased risk of developing tumours.

🐾 They can sometimes twist, causing sudden pain and a veterinary emergency.

🐾 The condition can be inherited, so affected dogs shouldn’t be bred from.

💙 The good news? Surgery allows us to remove both testicles, helping to prevent these complications and keeping Louie healthier in the long run!

And of course, every brave patient deserves a little extra love… especially when it comes from their very own sister! 🥹🩷

Louie was the brave boy, but Lulu definitely deserves the award for Best Emotional Support Sister! 🏆🐶💕

Sending lots of love and cuddles to this gorgeous duo! 🐾🩷💙

Autumn walks can be great fun for our pets, but fallen conkers are one seasonal hazard worth watching out for.

Conkers contain aesculin, which is toxic to dogs if eaten. They can also cause a dangerous blockage if swallowed, particularly in smaller dogs. Signs can include vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal discomfort, lethargy, wobbliness or tremors.

When you’re out walking:

🐾 Keep an eye on what your dog is picking up

🐾 Don’t engage in games of fetch with conkers

🐾 Practise a reliable “leave” or “drop” command

🐾 Take a favourite toy along as a safer distraction

If you think your pet has eaten conkers, contact us straight away for advice.

Did you know conkers are dangerous for dogs? Tell us in the comments!

🎓🐾 PUPPY ACADEMY GRADUATES! 🐾🎓

Please give a big round of ap-paws 👏🐾 to our latest Puppy Academy superstars…

🌟 Freya, William, Apple, Otto and Mabel! 🌟

These five gorgeous pups have recently graduated from our Puppy Academy at Corsham, led by our lovely Veterinary Nurse Avril! 🐶💕🎉

Throughout their time at Puppy Academy, these little stars have been building their confidence, learning important life skills and taking their first steps towards becoming happy, well-adjusted dogs! ❤️

🐾 Why is early socialisation so important?

Our Puppy Academy offers a fun, friendly and supportive environment for puppies and their owners to learn together, with plenty of helpful advice and guidance from our experienced veterinary team. 🩺💕

We couldn’t be prouder of Freya, William, Apple, Otto and Mabel! Just look at those adorable faces! 😍🐾 We hope you all enjoyed your time at Puppy Academy as much as we loved having you!

🐶 Have you recently welcomed a new puppy into your family?
