Hale Vet Group Our vets pride themselves on being able to provide the care, service and facilities that they themselves would wish for their own animals.

The Hale Veterinary Group veterinary hospital, based in Chippenham, provides veterinary services beyond those usually available in smaller 'GP-style' practices. The hospital is also the base for all our inpatients that receive the wonderful care and attention from our nursing team during the day and the Vets Now team at night providing true 24hr inpatient care. Our Chippenham waiting room is air-conditioned, has a separate 'Cat Corner', free Wi-Fi access while you wait and tea/coffee available on request.

🎃 HALLOWEEN DESIGN A PUMPKIN COMPETITION - DEADLINE EXTENDED! 🎃

Great news! Due to the fantastic interest we've received, we're extending the deadline for our Halloween Design a Pumpkin Competition.

🧡 Why are we extending the deadline?

To give more children the opportunity to enter.
To allow more time for creative pumpkin designs.
We would love to display all of the entries at our Chippenham Hospital, so we're hoping to receive even more fantastic artwork!

🏆 Age Categories: 🎨 2 to 4 years
🎨 5 to 8 years
🎨 9 to 13 years

📅 NEW DEADLINE: Friday 30th October at 19:00

One winner will be chosen from each age group and contacted by email or phone, with each winner receiving a spooky Halloween treat!

Crunchy leaves, interesting smells make autumn walks full of exciting discoveries for dogs!

Unfortunately, conkers are one discovery we’d rather they left on the ground.

As well as containing a toxin (aesculin), conkers are large and hard enough to cause a gastrointestinal blockage if swallowed.

If your dog loves carrying things on walks, try swapping conkers for something safer:

🥎 Bring their favourite ball or toy

🦴 Reward them for leaving things on the ground

🐕 Keep them closer to you in areas with lots of horse chestnut trees

👀 Pay extra attention when conkers are scattered along the path

A little prevention can help keep your autumn adventures fun rather than ending with an unexpected trip to the vet.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is one of the most common health conditions seen in older cats. As it develops gradually, early signs can be easy to miss.

Signs to watch out for include:

🐈 Drinking more water than usual

🐈 Urinating more, and more often

🐈 Weight loss

🐈 Reduced appetite

🐈 Vomiting

🐈 Poor coat condition

🐈 Tiredness or hiding more than usual

Diagnosis is based on a physical examination, blood tests to check kidney values, urine testing, blood pressure measurement, and sometimes imaging such as ultrasound.

Though CKD cannot be cured, it can usually be managed to help cats feel better and maintain a good quality of life.

Treatment may include a prescription kidney diet, encouraging water intake, medications, supplements, and regular monitoring with your vet.

If your cat is showing any of these signs, it is worth booking a check-up. Early diagnosis can make a real difference. 💙

⚠️ Autumn brings some seasonal hazards for our pets!

Swipe through to learn about some of the most common autumn dangers and how to help keep your pet safe.

If you think your pet has eaten or come into contact with any of these hazards, contact us straight away.

If you notice your pet nibbling, licking or scratching more than usual after a walk, harvest mites could be to blame. Give us a call for advice.

Rocky recently popped in to see Freya the vet for an important little procedure — getting microchipped! 💚

While microchipping is a legal requirement for dogs and cats, it’s also a sensible idea for other pets such as tortoises, rabbits and larger pet birds. These animals can be surprisingly good at escaping and, unfortunately, frequently find themselves lost.

A microchip provides a permanent form of identification and can make all the difference in getting a much-loved pet safely reunited with their family. 🏡❤️
