Monday blues have set in 💙

Today, we are reflecting on what has been one of our most successful and heartwarming chicken rescues to date, and we simply wanted to take a moment to say thank you.

Because of the kindness, dedication and compassion of so many incredible people, over 1,100 hens have been given a second chance at life. Alongside them, 10 wonderful cockerels have also found their way into loving new homes where they will be cherished and cared for.

We still have a small number of hens remaining, and we are currently working through recent enquiries to help them find their forever homes too. But before we move forward, we want to pause and recognise the incredible community effort that made this rescue possible.

First and foremost, we would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Emma at The Chronicles. Thank you for working alongside us, supporting this rescue, helping spread the word, and sharing our vision that every hen deserves the chance to live beyond commercial farming. Your support has been invaluable.

We would also like to thank Rupert. Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to rescue these hens and save them from slaughter. We are incredibly grateful for your cooperation throughout the process and for the care you provided to the birds during their time within the farming industry. The excellent condition of the hens when they arrived did not go unnoticed, and it made a tremendous difference as they began their journeys into retirement.

To every single person who came forward to rehome hens, thank you. Whether you collected a few birds or welcomed a larger flock into your family, you have changed lives. Every hen that left with a new family left with a future. Thank you also to everyone who donated, shared our posts, encouraged others to get involved, and continues to support both the hens and our rescue. Your generosity allows us to keep doing what we do.

To our incredible volunteers, there simply are not enough words.

Thank you to those who stood shoulder to shoulder with us on rescue day, entering the barns, carefully handling the hens, loading carriers, organising collections, answering questions, and working tirelessly to ensure the birds were moved safely and efficiently.

At the same time, we want to recognise the volunteers who remained behind at the sanctuary. Whilst many of us were focused on the rescue, you stepped up to ensure every other animal in our care continued to receive the love, attention, food, water and daily care they needed. Rescues like this are only possible because there are people quietly working behind the scenes, and we are endlessly grateful for each and every one of you.

This rescue felt truly special. In just an hour and a half, we successfully crated and saved an incredible number of hens. Everything came together in a way that reminded us just how amazing this community really is. We experienced only two or three collection noshows, which is remarkable when we would normally expect between 15 and 20. That level of commitment speaks volumes about the people who support our work.

The reality is that none of this happens because of one person. It happens because hundreds of people choose compassion. It happens because volunteers give up their time, because supporters donate what they can, because families open their homes, because partners work alongside us, and because people believe that these hens deserve a chance.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

Thank you for helping the hens.

Thank you for helping Bella’s Halfway Home Rescue.

Thank you for believing that every life matters.

Together, we have given more than 1,100 hens and 10 cockerels the opportunity to experience safety, freedom, kindness and love. That is something every single person involved should be proud of.

With love and gratitude,

The Team at Bella’s Halfway Home Rescue ❤️🐔Every hen rescued is proof that compassion can change a life 🧡

The update you’ve all been waiting patiently for ❤️‍🩹 🐑💛 Eddie's Journey Our Little Miracle Boy 💛🐑

It's hard to believe how far Eddie has come.

When we first met him, he was a tiny lamb who couldn't walk, couldn't feed properly, and was lying soaked in his own urine. A concerned member of the public had spotted him struggling and reached out for help. They didn't think he was going to make it, but we were given the chance to try.

The first few days were some of the hardest we've experienced. Eddie couldn't even get himself up. He spent his days grinding his teeth in pain, suffering from bloat, constipation, severe malnutrition, and a devastating case of joint ill that had been left untreated for far too long.

The infection had caused bacterial arthritis throughout his joints, leaving him with abscesses in places too dangerous to operate on. There were times when we honestly didn't know if he would survive. We spent countless hours administering medication, stretching his legs, helping him stand, and simply sitting with him when he needed comfort.

Slowly, little by little, Eddie started to show us he wasn't ready to give up.

The first time he stood by himself felt like a miracle.

The first time he walked, we cried.

Then came the tail wags.

Then came the little calls every time he saw us.

Those moments told us everything we needed to know about Eddie. He wanted to live.

Just as we thought we were making progress, we faced another setback when Eddie developed coccidiosis. Once again, our little fighter had another battle ahead of him. Thankfully, with treatment and a lot of determination, Eddie pulled through.

Today, we're so proud to say that Eddie is now parasite-free, worm-free, and has officially graduated from his hospital pen at home and moved up to the main rescue to join the other lambs and become a big boy. 🥹💛

We aren't completely out of the woods yet. Eddie still has ongoing mobility issues due to the damage caused by the infection, and we don't know what the future will look like for him long-term. He may always walk a little differently, and he will continue to need monitoring and support.

But when we look at him now compared to the lamb that arrived in our care, the difference is nothing short of incredible.

Eddie has taught us so much about resilience, determination, and the will to keep fighting even when the odds are stacked against you.

We absolutely adore this little boy. He has stolen all of our hearts, and no matter what happens in the future, Eddie will always be incredibly special to us. Watching him run around, make friends, and enjoy being a lamb is something we once weren't sure we'd ever see.

Thank you to everyone who has followed his journey, donated towards his care, shared his story, and cheered him on. Every single message, donation, and share helped us continue fighting for him when he needed it most.

We're not at the finish line yet, but today we're celebrating just how far our little fighter has come.

We love you, Eddie. 💛🐑
