Always happy to combine your horses dental with clipping so you can make the most of my visit. If you don’t clip yourself/have clippers I have a set in the car and can whip some hair off for you if it makes it easier than trying to line up another person - I’ll be there anyway 🙂

Two years ago today I put to sleep the mare I bought as a two year old in my teens. She was my dream horse to show jump, she followed me to vet school, my first job, my rehabilitation and setting up my Veterinary business. I retired her in her late teens but kept the promise I made to her not long after. I promised her that I would never let her suffer old age. When arthritis, melanomas and dental aging stopped her living a pain free life I knew I had to keep that promise, even though it felt too soon 🕊️

It surprises people when I tell them how often it’s me, the Veterinary Dentist, having this difficult conversation with owners. Either because their horses teeth are starting to fail or because I’m often the only consistent vet seeing their horse at regular intervals - so it’s me who notices a decline that’s hard to appreciate for an owner seeing them every day.

I’m posting this to say, I know how hard it is after all the time you have spent together to make that decision and keep that promise ♥️

I often I find owners are anxious, sometimes to the point its held them back booking, because they have gone well over due on teeth or vaccines, their horse is under/over weight, the facilities they keep their horse in, their horse has limited handling or they have limited experience. I know how judgemental the equestrian world is, and I can completely understand why owners can feel like this, but I promise you, I will never judge you. Life isn’t perfect and for most of us we have a lot to deal with and we’re doing the best we can, when we can. And that is enough. Please don’t hesitate or worry I will judge you because I promise you I never will ☺️

Has it been a little while since your horses last dental and you’ve been meaning to get round to organising it? Have you bought a new horse? Or got a youngster that’s not had a dental yet? Drop me a message, let’s get them booked in.

This ponies owner had no idea this was going on inside; since purchasing the pony it was eating well and going sweetly for her daughter. Horses, ponies and donkeys so rarely show signs of dental pain however significant.

The relief this pony will be feeling right now makes me love my job so much 🥹
