Q: Why does my dog ignore me when they know the cue at home?
A: Dogs don't automatically understand that a cue means the same thing in every environment. A sit in your kitchen is very different from a sit in the park when there are smells, people and other dogs competing for their attention.
Rather than assuming your dog is being stubborn, think about whether they've had enough practice in different places and around different distractions. Training isn't just about teaching a cue, it's about helping your dog succeed wherever they are.
