🍁 Autumn is on its way!
While we don’t want summer to end just yet, we’re definitely looking forward to those crunchy-leaf woodland walks and seeing the beautiful autumn colours.
There are a few things to be aware of during this lovely time of year — PLEASE SHARE THIS POST to help keep pets safe!
🌰 Conkers
If eaten, conkers can cause intestinal blockages, leading to vomiting and abdominal pain. They also contain a toxin that can cause excessive drooling, vomiting and stomach upset.
🍄 Mushrooms & Toadstools
Many fungi are toxic to dogs, and it’s almost impossible to tell which are harmful. Best to avoid all mushrooms and toadstools when out walking.
🍂 Fallen Leaves
Damp leaves can harbour bacteria and mould. Mycotoxins from mould may cause vomiting, diarrhoea or even seizures — keep an eye on your dog if they’re playing in leaf piles.
🐕 Seasonal Canine Illness (SCI)
Cases appear between August and November. Affected dogs usually become unwell after woodland walks — watch for vomiting, diarrhoea and lethargy. Call us immediately if you see these signs.
🍫 Chocolate
With Halloween approaching, chocolate is everywhere — but theobromine makes it toxic to dogs. Even small amounts can cause vomiting, diarrhoea or more serious neurological signs.
💥 Fireworks
Loud noises can be very stressful for dogs. Prepare early: create a quiet, safe space at home, and ask us about calming supplements or pheromone diffusers — we’re happy to help!
