Many don’t know this information! Remember every second matters during a choking incident.
1. Place the dog on their back. Brace the back against the floor. Straddle the dog while adjusting yourself based on the size of the dog. Position the head in “in-line position” with the airway parallel to the floor.
2. Make an open diamond shape with your hands. Place your thumbs on either side of the trachea below the ball or object. Grip the “V” of the jaw using lip/cheek to protect fingers.
3. Push with a J-stroke down and out against the ball until it ejects from the mouth.
Both this method and the Heimlich method has been proven to work in these scenarios so don’t hesitate to save your dog.

We need to share an important message about animal safety 💚

Over recent weeks, several cats brought to us were unfortunately not secured properly in their carriers. This led to multiple cats escaping, including kittens and an adult cat who may be pregnant. Our team has worked tirelessly to safely trap and secure almost all of them, but sadly, they are not all safe with us yet 😢

Unfortunately, one very small kitten has not been seen again, and we are extremely worried about their chances of survival. Our priority is, and always will be, the welfare of every animal, and situations like this put them at serious risk while also placing huge pressure on our already limited resources.

This is a gentle but vital reminder: please double-check that carriers are fully secure before leaving your vehicle. A quick check really can make all the difference. If you’re bringing an animal to us, we ask that you check and check again, that they are completely secure. Thank you for helping us keep every animal safe 😍

The photo shows the most recent cat, who sadly escaped today. If you’re local, please keep an eye out for her and let us know of any sightings. Thank you 🐾

SHE IS STEALING HER OWN SKELETON. HELP HER. 🦴🥚

Right now, inside the female birds in your garden, a physiological marathon is beginning. They are preparing to lay. But nature has a cruel math problem. A Blue Tit lays 120% of her body weight in eggs. Where does the shell come from? Her own legs.

The Science of the Calcium Crash: 1. The "Medullary" Bank Account 🏦 Because she can't store enough calcium for 10 eggs, she grows a temporary bone inside her legs called Medullary Bone. Every morning, she dissolves this bone to make an eggshell. Every afternoon, she has to eat calcium to rebuild the bone for the next day.

2. The Seed Trap 🌻 If you feed her only Sunflower Hearts, you are failing her. Seeds have Phosphorus but almost no Calcium. It’s like trying to build a brick wall using only sand. If she can't find snail shells (which are scarce in Feb), she runs out of bone to dissolve.

3. The "Egg-Bound" Death 💀 The uterus needs calcium to contract. If she runs out, her muscles fail. The egg gets stuck inside her (Egg Binding). She dies of exhaustion and pressure on her kidneys. It is preventable.

The Solution (The Kitchen Hack): Don't buy expensive supplements. You have the cure in your kitchen.

Save your chicken eggshells.

Bake them (10 mins at 180°C) to kill Salmonella.

Crush them into fine grit.

Mix them with the seed or put them in a separate dish.

The Verdict: Calcium is the missing link in the winter diet. Refill her bank account today, so she survives the spring.

📌 Quick FAQ
Q: Can I use raw shells? A: NO. 🦠 Raw chicken shells can carry Salmonella. While wild birds are tough, you don't want to risk infecting the feeder station. Baking them sterilizes them and makes them brittle/easier to crush.

Q: Do they eat the whole shell? A: No, they need grit. 🥣 They can't peck a whole shell. You must crush it into small flakes (like cereal). They will pick out the pieces they need.

Q: Is Cuttlefish bone okay? A: Yes. 🦑 The white bone you give to budgies. Scrape it with a knife over the bird table to create a fine white powder. It is pure Calcium Carbonate.
