🌾 Those pesky grass seeds have been out causing trouble again for our patients! 🌾
Poor Chip came into the clinic with a swelling under his chin. The swelling, which was a large abscess, was lanced and flushed in the clinic, and Chip was started on medication.
A few days later, the swelling had returned and Chip was very unhappy. He was also struggling to open his mouth because of the swelling.
We decided the best course of action was to sedate Chip and thoroughly explore the abscess. Once he was anaesthetised, we were able to have a good look inside his mouth and found a small hole beneath his tongue with a long tract leading towards the swelling — highly suggestive of a foreign body.
The abscess was opened and flushed again, but frustratingly, nothing came out. 🤔
We decided to use our endoscope to see if we could locate whatever was causing the problem… and we hit GOLD! 🎉
Buried deep within the tissues of Chip’s neck was a big grass seed! 🌾
We were able to carefully use forceps to retrieve it, finally removing the cause of all that trouble.
Chip woke up a very happy boy and even ate immediately! ❤️ He has continued to improve now that the pesky seed has been removed.
Another reminder of just how much trouble these tiny grass seeds can cause! 😬🌾
