Mary Poppins has her handbag. I’ve got my Pinewood dog walking waist belt. And trust me, there’s a surprising amount crammed in there!
It’s not all poo bags and dog treats (although there’s plenty of both!).
The essentials that always come roaming with me….
Treats, treats and more treats – Good behaviour deserves rewarding and a little bribery never hurt anyone!
Poo bags – Lots of them. You can NEVER have too many.
Balls and Training Dummies – For a little fun, play and enrichment when it’s safe and appropriate.
Spare lead – Always being prepared is part of keeping everyone safe.
ACME dog whistle – My trusty recall tool. Consistency is key, especially when there are exciting smells and distractions about!
Spare ID tags – Every dog needs to be identifiable when out in public. A little backup for peace of mind.
Canine first aid essentials – Hopefully never needed, but always there just in case.
Phone – For emergencies, navigation and, obviously, approximately 400 photos of your dog looking fabulous.
Personal safety alarm – Safety isn’t just about the dogs. I spend a lot of time walking solo in woodland, countryside and quieter locations, so carrying a personal alarm is a simple precaution for my own peace of mind too.
Somehow, it all fits!
Being a professional dog walker isn’t just about lovely countryside walks and muddy paws. It’s about being prepared, thinking ahead and making sure everyone gets home safely.
