Meet Sweep!🩵
Sweep is nearly 14 years old and recently came to us to have a lump removed under general anaesthetic that was effecting his day to day life.
A common worry with older pets is that they may be “too old” for an anaesthetic. While senior pets can be more likely to have underlying health conditions, age alone doesn’t tell us how healthy an individual patient is. By carrying out a thorough pre-operative assessment, we can better understand their overall health and plan their anaesthetic accordingly.🤓
Before Sweep’s procedure, he had a pre-anaesthetic blood test measuring his liver and kidney parameters and complete blood count which was all within normal limits. His anaesthetic drugs and maintenance were based on him as an individual, and he was carefully monitored throughout his anaesthetic and recovery.🩺
Older pets may need a few extra considerations, but age alone shouldn’t prevent them from receiving treatment that could improve their comfort and quality of life.
If you’re worried about your older pet needing an anaesthetic, please don't hesitate to speak to our vets or nurses. We can assess them individually, discuss any risks and explain the steps we can take to make their procedure as safe as possible.🙏🏻
Mr. Sweep is doing wonderfully!🥰
