💙🐾 National Boss Day🐾💙
Now, there are three people who don't actually get much of the spotlight on our social media pages… mainly because they're usually far too busy keeping everything running behind the scenes! 😂

James and Sean work across all three of our practices, juggling consultations alongside everything else that comes with running Vet Well Soon — including plenty of things our clients probably never get to see! 🩺💻🐾

Then there's our wonderful Practice Manager Jules, also working across all three sites and usually tucked away in an office somewhere — not always by choice 😂 — dealing with approximately 847 different things at once and somehow keeping us all heading in the right direction! 💻☎️📝

And if we're being truthful, we probably don't tell any of them how we really feel often enough… mainly because when we go looking for them, it's usually because we need something, something has gone wrong, or we're about to make something their problem. 👀😂

So, on National Boss Day, we're putting the requests, questions and “have you got two minutes?” conversations aside for just a moment to simply say thank you. ❤️

Thank you for supporting us, putting up with us, believing in the team and working incredibly hard behind the scenes to keep our three practices doing what they do every day. Thank you for being your strange, wonderful, silly, supportive and fantastic selves. 🥹💙

We might drive you slightly bonkers from time to time… but we wouldn't have you any other way. Happy National Boss Day, James, Sean & Jules! We appreciate you three more than we probably remember to tell you. ❤️🐾

🏡 FRIDAY — Learning that alone is okay

🐶💕 Puppy Socialisation Week: Final Day! 💕🐶

We've talked about meeting people, exploring new things, handling and experiencing the big wide world… but there's another really important skill puppies need to learn:

🏡 How to be comfortable on their own.

It can be tempting to spend every waking second cuddling your new arrival — we get it! LOOK AT THEM! 😭😂 — but gradually introducing short periods alone can help them learn that being separated from you isn't something to fear.

Start with very short, manageable periods and build up gradually, making alone time calm and normal rather than suddenly leaving them for hours. 🐾❤️

And perhaps the biggest message from this entire week is…

🌟 Socialisation isn't about cramming as many experiences as possible into your puppy's life.

It's about providing a variety of safe, positive experiences without overwhelming them, allowing them to explore at their own pace and helping them build confidence in the world around them. 🥹🐶💚

Small experiences now can help shape a happier, more confident adult dog later. 🐾❤️

🌎 THURSDAY — The floor is… suspicious?!

🐶🐾 Puppy Socialisation Week: Day 4!

Grass might seem completely ordinary to us, but to a puppy experiencing the world for the first time, different surfaces can feel VERY strange! 😂

Where safe and appropriate, gradually introducing different surfaces and environments can help build confidence:
🌱 Grass
🧸 Carpet
🪨 Gravel & pebbles
🪵 Different indoor flooring
🪜 Steps and stairs
🚗 Car journeys
🌳 Parks & countryside
🏙️ Towns and busier environments
🚦 Watching traffic from a safe distance

Remember to consider your puppy’s vaccination status when deciding where they can safely explore — your veterinary team can advise you if you're unsure. 💉🐾

And don't forget: watching counts too! Your puppy doesn't need to interact with everything they see.

Tomorrow, we’re finishing with something that can be surprisingly difficult… learning how to be alone. ❤️

🩺 WEDNESDAY — Touch the toes!

🐾🩺 Puppy Socialisation Week: Day 3!

Here’s one that your future vet, veterinary nurse AND groomer will thank you for! 😂👏

Getting puppies comfortable with gentle handling from an early age can make routine care much less daunting later in life.

Practise gently touching and examining their:

🐾 Paws & legs
👂 Ears
🦷 Mouth & teeth
💕 Tummy and chest
🐕 Tail
🤗 Head & neck

You can also gradually introduce things such as gentle brushing, wearing a collar and lead, being restrained briefly and standing on a table.

Keep sessions short, gentle and positive, and stop if your puppy becomes uncomfortable. ❤️

A 30-second paw-touching session now could make those future claw clips MUCH less dramatic! 😂💅🐶

Tomorrow we're heading outside and exploring what’s under those little paws! 🌎🐾

👃 TUESDAY — What on earth is THAT?!

🐶👀 Puppy Socialisation Week: Day 2!

Imagine experiencing everything for the very first time… because that's exactly what your puppy is doing! 🥹🌎

Getting them accustomed to everyday objects, sounds and smells can help them become more confident as they grow.

Think about things such as:

📦 Cardboard boxes & buckets
🧸 Different toys
🚗 Cars and household noises
🐶 Other dogs
🐱 Cats and other animals
🐴 Horses & livestock
🏥 The smells of a veterinary practice or boarding kennels
🔊 Everyday household sounds

Let them look, sniff and investigate at their own pace, pairing new experiences with praise, play or treats where appropriate. 💕🐾

The goal isn't to overwhelm them with everything at once — little positive experiences add up! 🌟

Tomorrow…we’re talking paws, ears, mouths and handling! 👂🐾🦷

🐾 MONDAY — It’s not just about meeting other dogs!

🐶💚 Let’s talk puppy socialisation! 💚🐶

When we hear “socialising a puppy”, it’s easy to think this simply means letting them meet lots of other dogs… but there’s SO much more to it! 🌎🐾

One important part is introducing your puppy positively to different types of people while they’re young.

👶 Babies & children
👵 Older people
🧔 People with beards or facial hair
🦺 People wearing uniforms or high-vis
👒 Hats, glasses & different clothing
♿ Wheelchairs and mobility aids
☔ People carrying unusual objects

The world is a BIG place when you’re only little! 🥹

These experiences should always be calm, positive and at your puppy’s own pace — socialisation isn't about forcing them to interact, but helping them learn that new and different things don't have to be scary. ❤️

Tomorrow, we’ll be looking at some of the strange objects, sounds and smells your puppy might encounter! 👀🐶

🏡🐾 National Adoption Day 🐾🏡
Today we’re celebrating all those wonderful pets who found their families through adoption and rescue! 🥹❤️

Choosing to adopt can mean:
🏡 Giving an animal in need a loving, secure home
❤️ Offering a fresh start to a pet whose past may not have been easy
🐾 Supporting a charity so they can continue helping other animals in need
🥹 Gaining a best friend who might just change your life too!

When adopting from a reputable rescue or shelter, the adoption fee also often contributes towards care already provided, which may include vaccinations, microchipping and neutering, depending on the rescue. 🩺💉 This means you're not only helping your new companion — you're helping the charity continue its amazing work too! 💕

Of course, “adopt, don’t shop” isn't about judging where anybody's beloved pet came from. It's simply about encouraging those looking for a new companion to consider the thousands of wonderful animals already waiting for their second chance. 🐶🐱🐰❤️

We are saddened to share that a black and white, entire male cat was brought into our practice after being found between Clipstone and Edwinstowe last night.

Unfortunately, despite the very best efforts of our out of hours veterinary team, we were unable to save this poor boy, and he has sadly passed away. 🌈🐾

Unfortunately he was not microchipped, meaning we have been unable to identify or contact his family.

We are now hoping that, with the help of our community, we can find his owners and give them some much-needed answers and the opportunity to say goodbye. ❤️

⚖️🐾 National Pet Obesity Awareness Day 🐾⚖️
We all show our pets love in different ways…and we know how hard it is to resist those “but I’m STARVING!” eyes! 👀🥺😂 But carrying extra weight can have a big impact on our pets’ health, putting additional strain on their joints, heart and mobility, and increasing the risk of conditions such as diabetes. ❤️‍🩹

🍗 Overfeeding, too many treats or feeding an unsuitable diet might feel like we're spoiling them with love, but over time, those extra calories can unfortunately do more harm than good.

And please remember — there’s absolutely no shame in asking for help! 💙
