Next week is set to bring some warmer weather, so I wanted to give everyone an update on how I’ll be keeping the dogs in my care safe and comfortable. ☀️🐾
As many of you know, dogs can struggle to regulate their body temperature, and some are at a much higher risk of heat-related illness than others.
For brachycephalic (flat-faced) breeds, visits will be put in place if temperatures reach 18°C. Breeds such as Bulldogs, Pugs, French Bulldogs, Shih Tzus and Boxers can be more vulnerable to the effects of heat, so avoiding walks is the safest option.
For all other dogs, walks will be stopped if temperatures reach 23°C. Where possible, these walks will be replaced with a home visit, giving your dog the opportunity for a toilet break, fresh water, enrichment, fuss and company in the comfort of their own home.
These decisions are always made with your dog’s welfare as the priority and are based on current weather conditions, humidity levels and individual risk factors.
