Hands up, who regularly checks their cat's teeth?

It's something that's easily forgotten, especially when your cat seems perfectly happy and is eating normally.

But cats can be very good at hiding dental discomfort, and problems can develop without obvious signs.

Bad breath, red gums, tartar and changes in eating habits are all things worth paying attention to.

The good news is that there are things you can do at home to help look after your cat's teeth.

We've put together a few tips to get you started.

And remember, if you spot something that doesn't look right, your vet is always the first port of call.

**We've got a new addition to the Whiskers Wild studio!**

This week, we've welcomed a brand-new rotating grooming table from Artero, a brand we absolutely love for their cat grooming products.

And it's not just a fancy new bit of equipment. There are some really lovely benefits for the cats we groom.

The table is height-adjustable, which means we can position each cat at a comfortable working height, giving us better control when handling them.

It also rotates! Now, don't worry, we won't be spinning your cats around like disco balls!

What it does mean is that we can gently rotate the table when we're doing things like claw trims, rather than having to pick the cat up and turn them around.

Less handling, less disruption and, for some cats, a much more comfortable grooming experience.

We've spent the last couple of days putting it to the test, even with some rather large Maine C***s, and so far, we're loving it!

We're looking forward to putting it to good use and sharing more photos with you.

This is 18-year-old Harley.

She had significant matting, but on closer inspection, her coat also had a build-up of dirt and grease.

With some patience, we were able to tease out the majority of the matting, meaning shaving was kept to a minimum.

We used a coat-conditioning foaming shampoo, and she was left looking and feeling much better.

Her owner had struggled to find a groomer, so she was really pleased to have found Whiskers Wild.

Cosy season is coming...

As the weather gets colder, our cats tend to spend even more time curled up in their favourite warm spots.

Lovely for them. Not always quite so lovely for a long coat.

For long-haired breeds such as Persians and Maine C***s, all that curling up, sleeping and friction against the coat can contribute to tangles, which can eventually turn into mats if they're not caught early.

Regular brushing at home and keeping on top of professional grooming can make a huge difference.

If you've already started noticing little tangles appearing, don't wait until they become tight mats.

If I were a cat breed, I'd be a Ragdoll...

I'm sociable and love being around people, but I'm also quite happy having my own space.

I'm laid-back, adaptable, and you'll usually find me quietly following my favourite people around... before disappearing for a little recharge when I need it.

Basically, I love company... just with boundaries!

This World Animal Day, we want to talk about something that's really important to us.

Grooming isn't about vanity.

For many cats, grooming is an important part of keeping them comfortable and well.

Removing mats and tangles, keeping claws at a comfortable length, removing excess dead coat and helping cats who can no longer manage their coat themselves can make a real difference to their everyday comfort.

Sometimes the kindest groom isn't necessarily the prettiest one either. If a coat is badly matted, our priority will always be what is safest and most comfortable for the cat.

For us, grooming has always been about care first.

If your cat is struggling with their coat, please don't feel embarrassed about asking for help. That's what we're here for.

Why choose a Teddy Bear Cut?

A Teddy Bear Cut is a great option for long-haired cats when you want to keep some of that gorgeous fluff while making their coat a little easier to manage.

By shortening the coat to an even, manageable length, it can help reduce tangles and matting and make brushing at home much easier.

It's particularly helpful for cats who struggle to maintain their own coat or owners who find keeping on top of a very long coat difficult.

And, of course, they look lovely afterwards too.

We think that face says it all.

Just a very content Ragdoll enjoying a lovely gentle groom.

There's something so satisfying about slowly working through a long coat, getting those little tangles out and seeing how lovely and fluffy it looks afterwards.

But the best bit has to be seeing them looking this happy and relaxed at the end.
