☀️ The weather is meant to reach scoarching temperatures over the next few days and we want to make sure you feel safe bringing your dog to and from our centre.

Once you are here we have air con units inside and doors and windows will be kept shut so it’ll be nice and cool.

If we could ask you to park as near as you can to the centre to avoid your dog having to walk on the warmer path too much. We have a hose ready and can hose down the pathway before your dog gets out the car to get into us If the ground is hot.

Any problems please let us know and give us as much advance notice as possible if you decide it’s too hot for your dog travelling to and from us (think if you don't have air con). Cancellation fees don't apply this week to help keep you as safe as possible, but again, please think ahead and give us as much notice as possible.

Thankyou.

What can you do to help?

✅️ Ensure your dog is well hydrated before arriving, and only gone out for a brief (early) walk for toileting
✅️ Cool your car with Aircon BEFORE travelling
✅Don’t arrive early unless you have a cool place to wait (Air conditioned car)
✅️ Give us plenty of notice for changes & be flexible if we need to shuffle slots

Keep safe and cool

🐾❤️Bluey is a gorgeous ball of adorability, we adore him-at 3 years old he’s awaiting a double hip replacement and has heart trouble. Giving him underwater treadmill therapy / hydrotherapy pre-surgery helps stabilise his joints by building and maintaining muscle mass and easing pain that he struggles with on land and with his size it’s going to help him recover faster after surgery 💪🙌❤️🐾
Bluey came to His current foster home after having many many homes before due to his size and health troubles, He ended up with The Newfoundland Club Welfare Charity. We have worked with a few different dog charities before over the last decade and offer a charity session a week to dogs in need increasing their likelihood of finding their forever homes and/or having a better quality of life. They deserve it and dogs like Bluey are the ones whom really struggle due to their breed and size. We’re so glad we can help him and will be with throughout 💪
If you feel you want to help Bluey’s case (funds are being raised for His hip surgery which is over £7000 per hip) follow this link to donate to his page https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/newfoundlandclub?utm_medium=CF&utm_source=WA

🐾 Nail Length & Its Impact on Canine Biomechanics

Have you checked your dog’s nails recently?

Long nails do more than just click on the floor—they can significantly influence your dog’s posture, movement, and overall musculoskeletal health.

When nails are left untrimmed, they don’t just affect the paw—they can impact the entire kinetic chain.

Why Nail Length Matters

🟢 Alters Joint Angulation & Posture

Overgrown nails force the toe pads upward and backward (caudally), shifting weight proximally within the limb.

This disrupts normal limb loading and can lead to:

* Postural adaptations
* Altered joint alignment
* Compensatory movement patterns

📖 Reference: Zink & Van D**e (2013), Canine Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation

🟢 Impacts Gait & Reduces Stability

If nails contact the ground during stance, they can:

* Cause toe splaying
* Reduce effective ground contact
* Compromise traction

This may increase the risk of:

* Slipping
* Soft tissue strain (tendons/ligaments)
* Secondary compensatory issues

📖 References: Touch Animal Rehabilitation (2020); Canine Body Balance (2021)

🟢 Increases Musculoskeletal Load

Chronic postural change can contribute to:

* Myofascial tension
* Uneven joint loading
* Increased risk of conditions like Osteoarthritis in dogs

Particularly relevant in:

* Senior dogs
* Sporting/working dogs
* Orthopaedic cases

📖 Reference: Veterinary Clinics of North America (2020)

✅ Quick Nail Check

Ask yourself:

✔️ Do the nails touch the ground when your dog is standing?
✔️ Can you hear them tapping on hard flooring?

If yes—it’s time for a trim.

🟢 Clinical Insight

Nail length is often overlooked, yet it’s one of the simplest modifiable factors affecting biomechanics.

In practice, I frequently see improvements in:

* Postural alignment
* Limb loading symmetry
* Movement quality

…simply by addressing nail length alongside soft tissue work.

🟢 When to Seek Help

If your dog:

* Is reluctant to walk on certain surfaces
* Slips frequently
* Shows subtle gait changes
* Dislikes nail trimming

Support from a qualified professional (groomer, vet, or therapist) can make a significant difference.
