Marshall, is a beautiful 10 month old Maine C**n, who is owned by one of our colleagues at Haygate Veterinary Centre.

A relatively loud heart murmur had been identified prior to castration. Not wanting to have any problems under anaesthetic, and because Maine C**ns are predisposed to heart conditions, his owner decided to seek referral to our specialist in cardiology, Liz Bode.

Marshall was such a wonderful patient, allowing echocardiography to be performed without the need of sedation (we try and avoid sedation in as many of our cardiology patients as possible). Echocardiography revealed a very small ventricular septal defect (VSD or hole in the heart). Luckily for Marshall the VSD is known as restrictive, which means that it will not cause him issues throughout his life.

Collaborations like this across ensure the very best possible outcomes and care for all of our patients.

🎉 Congratulations to Deborah Haywood!

We’re delighted to celebrate Deborah on successfully completing her PgCert Advanced Veterinary Nursing (Oncology) through Harper Adams University.

The year-long course covered a wide range of areas including ethics, diagnostic techniques, staging and treatment courses, alongside an important focus on supporting both patients and their owners throughout their oncology journey.

Deborah said:

“I learned such a lot and cannot wait to put it into practice with our wonderful patients and clients here at Chestergates.”
