Thank you for your kind review and for putting your trust in our team. 💚
We understand that needing specialist care for your pet can feel overwhelming, so hearing that clients feel supported, informed, and cared for throughout their journey means a great deal to us.
We are proud to care for every patient with compassion, expertise, and dedication, and we are always grateful when clients take the time to share their experience.

At Chestergates Veterinary Specialists, our orthopaedic service supports patients with a wide range of bone, joint and mobility conditions - from complex fractures to cruciate ligament disease and advanced reconstructive procedures, such as total hip replacements.

A unique part of this service is the surgical team’s ability to consult with other specialist-led services working on site. Our specialist-led anaesthesia team make general anaesthetics as safe as possible and ensure tailor-made anaesthesia and pain relief for each and every patient that comes through the door.

We are delighted to have Dave Thomson as part of our team. As one of the most experienced orthopaedic surgeons in the UK he can offer advanced management of all kinds of orthopaedic problems. Dave and our team work closely with referring vets to provide expert assessment, advanced imaging, tailored surgical planning and dedicated inpatient care throughout each patient’s journey.

Whether it is helping a dog return to comfortable walks or supporting a cat through complex trauma recovery, our focus is always on precision, collaboration and the best possible outcome for every patient.

May is Veterinary Nurse Awareness Month so there is no better time to highlight the fantastic team of registered veterinary nurses (RVN’s) we have here at ChesterGates. From admit to discharge, our team of specialised nurses help care for your pet in every aspect.

They take bloods, monitor anaesthetics, run a CT and MRI scan, place urinary catheters, co-ordinate blood donations and transfusions, manage wound care, place central venous catheters, administer nerve blocks and chemotherapy…the list truly does go on and on 💚

Compassion and empathy are at the heart of what they do. They build relationships with their patients - from those who are anxious and need patience, to those who need tempting with a tasty snack. They utilise their incredible range of skills to ensure your pets get the best care possible.

Not only are they there to support your pets, but also you, as owners. As RVN’s, they help guide owners through post-operative care, provide support during difficult times, and are there to offer a friendly face for any questions you may have.

RVN’s take on a multitude of roles within the hospital, and we couldn’t do what we do without them.
So to our brilliant nurses - thank you 💚

This little cutie is 14 week old Cavalier King Charles Milo!
He accidentally ate a couple of grapes which are toxic to dogs and can cause kidney failure. It's been reported that even just as little as 1 or 2 grapes or raisins can cause toxicity!

His owners took swift action and brought him to see us (his veterinary practices out of hours service) where we assessed him and made him sick to bring up the grapes.

If you're ever unsure whether something your pet has eaten or licked could be toxic then it is always best to err on the side of caution and double check. You can call your usual veterinary practice, use out of hours or Animal Poison Line (https://www.facebook.com/share/1J8xMqhAf7/) for advice.

New publication alert
A huge congratulations to Giulia Marchionne on the publication of her paper, “Survey of veterinary anaesthesia practices for computed tomography in small animal referral hospitals in the UK”, published in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia.
This is a fantastic achievement and a brilliant reflection of the dedication that goes on behind the scenes in veterinary referral practice. Alongside busy clinical caseloads, patient care, client communication, and day-to-day hospital life, many vets continue to contribute to research that helps develop understanding and improve standards across the profession.
Giulia’s work highlights the value of asking questions, sharing knowledge, and continually reviewing how we practise - all while doing the “normal job” at the same time, which is no small feat!
Congratulations Giulia - a very well-deserved achievement.
