🦴🐾 GEORGE’S TPLO JOURNEY — FROM SURGERY TO RUNNING AGAIN! 🐾🦴

This is George. ❤️ And this is his journey through TPLO knee surgery, right here at NorthPaw Vets.

George came to us with a knee problem that required specialist orthopaedic surgery. So we brought in our friend of the practice, Claire, especially to perform his TPLO.

Claire is a veterinary surgeon who holds a certificate in Veterinary Orthopaedics, and we were delighted to have her here working alongside Jenny and the NorthPaw team to give George the very best care. 🩺

Of course, every patient is different and the most appropriate treatment will always depend on their individual condition — but if your dog needs advanced orthopaedic care, you don’t necessarily have to travel miles away to find it. 🐾

🐾 MEET KIA & KIAÀ! 🐾

These two gorgeous Belgian Malinois pups came to see us this week for their vaccinations — and what a pair they are! 😍🐶🐶

Belgian Malinois are an incredibly intelligent, energetic and athletic breed. They’re famous for being able to jump, climb and manoeuvre their way over just about anything — their impressive “parkour” skills are one of the reasons they’re so often seen working alongside police and other specialist teams. 👮‍♂️🐕

So while most puppies are busy figuring out how to get onto the sofa… a Malinois is probably working out how to get over it! 😂

Kia & Kiaà were absolute stars for their vaccinations and we’re sure they’re going to keep their humans VERY busy as they grow! ❤️

We love meeting puppies at NorthPaw Vets and watching them grow into happy, healthy adults. 🐾

🐾 LUMPS & BUMPS MONTH – SEPTEMBER 🐾

Have you found a little lump or bump on your dog or cat and thought… “I’ll keep an eye on it”? 👀

We get it — sometimes they seem harmless, but any new or changing lump is worth getting checked. The sooner we know what we’re dealing with, the better we can advise you on what to do next. ❤️

Throughout September, we’re running our Lumps & Bumps offer at NorthPaw Vets:

🔹 Lump consultation – just £35
And if surgery is recommended and booked, we’ll deduct the £35 consultation fee from the procedure cost.

🔹 Fixed package deal – £499
For suitable cases, this includes:
🐾 General anaesthetic
🐾 Surgical removal
🐾 IV fluids (if indicated)
🐾 Pain relief
🐾 Routine postoperative check
🐾 Pre-op blood test

Large or complex masses will be assessed individually and quoted separately.

Don’t ignore that little lump. It may be nothing to worry about — but let’s check it together. 🐶🐱

🐱💙 “SHE’S JUST GETTING OLD…”

We hear this quite a lot when it comes to our older feline friends.

But sometimes the changes we think are simply part of getting older can actually be signs of something we can help with. 🐾

🐱 Not grooming quite as well?
It could be arthritis or another painful condition making it harder for them to reach those tricky places.

🐱 Not jumping up onto their favourite spots anymore?
Again, this could be arthritis or joint pain rather than simply “slowing down”.

🐱 Eating a little differently?
Dental disease is incredibly common in older cats and can make eating uncomfortable.

🐱 Lost a bit of weight?
Weight loss isn’t something we should automatically put down to age. There are several conditions that become more common as cats get older.

🐱 Drinking or urinating more?
This can be a sign of conditions such as kidney disease, diabetes or thyroid problems and is worth getting checked.

🐱 Sleeping more or seeming less interested in things?
It can be easy to think they’re simply becoming a quieter cat, but changes in behaviour can sometimes tell us that something isn’t quite right.

❤️ The good news?

There is SO much we can do to help our older cats feel comfortable and enjoy their golden years.

Pain relief, dental treatment, medication, dietary changes and regular health checks can all make a huge difference depending on what’s going on.

Getting older is a normal part of life…

But feeling unwell doesn’t have to be. 🐾

If you’ve noticed a change in your older cat, don’t just assume it’s because they’re getting old. Let’s have a chat and see if there’s something we can do to help. 💙

We came home from the RSPCA Fun Dog Show with a phone absolutely FULL of videos of dogs…

And honestly, we couldn’t bring ourselves to delete any of them. 😂

Different breeds, different personalities, different sizes… but all equally gorgeous! 😍

We had such a lovely day meeting everyone and seeing so many happy dogs enjoying themselves.

🐾 SUNDAY THOUGHTS WITH BIG CAT 🐾

I’ve been thinking.

Humans spend an extraordinary amount of time rushing around. They rush to work, rush to the shops, rush out the door, rush back again…

And yet, when you really think about it, what are they actually rushing towards?

I, on the other hand, have learned to appreciate the finer things in life.

A warm patch of sunshine.

A quiet afternoon watching the world go by.

A comfortable place to sleep.

Someone willing to provide an occasional head scratch.

And, of course, food at precisely the time I have decided I am hungry.

Perhaps humans could learn something from us cats.

Slow down. Look around. Appreciate the little things.

Take time to enjoy the sunshine.

Spend time with the ones you love.

And never underestimate the importance of a good nap.

These are the things that make life worth living.

Although, having given this considerable thought, I have reached one final and rather important conclusion…

I could really do with some chicken. 🍗

🐾❤️ WHAT A DAY! ❤️🐾

And just like that, our day at the RSPCA Fun Dog Show at Lumley Castle is over!

It was absolutely lovely to see so many fantastic dogs, with so many different breeds, personalities and VERY waggy tails! 🐶🐕🐩🐕‍🦺

And of course, Martin had the very important job of judging the Lord & Lady Waggalot contest 👑🐾

We have to say… it was MUCH harder than it looked! 😂 There were some seriously impressive contenders, and choosing the winners was no easy task.

It was such a fun day, and we loved meeting so many lovely local dog owners and getting out and about in our community. ❤️

A huge thank you to the RSPCA Sunderland, Hartlepool & South Tyneside Branch for putting on such a fantastic event and for letting us be part of it.

And thank you to everyone who came over to say hello to the NorthPaw team — we hope you had as much fun as we did! 🐾💙
