A fantastic ‘Games for Life Skills’ session last week!

It was finally cool enough to take what they’ve been learning in the secure paddock (in the shade) out into a busier environment.

They smashed it!

✅ Middle

✅ Left and right heel positions

✅ Self-control

✅ Emergency stop practice

✅ Recall from distractions

✅ Settling around each other and the distractions

✅ The start of boundary training

So proud of them all! ✨

Cooper says ‘do you like my head gear? It’s designer don’t you know’ 🤣🐾✨

Making us laugh with his spaniel antics in his recent 1-1, for which he did so well! Very proud of the progress he and his owner are making ✨

A few weeks ago I saw Casper for his third session as part of his Deluxe Puppy Package.

We worked on loose lead walking and recall; what this looks like in puppies, how to prevent pulling and the activities I encourage on these outings.

✅ Sniffing

✅ Processing the world around them

✅ A little bit of training if they are in a good head space to be receptive - what to look for and how to support them if not.

✅ What teaching loose lead looks like as there are so many nuances to this

✅ What teaching recall looks like, as likewise, there are so many nuances to this.

Casper was a complete star and his owners were thrilled with how he got on ⭐️

Last week’s ’Games for Life Skills’ class practicing some more of their games they’ve been working on!

We started incorporating some of the separate games together into sequences that worked on skills for recall, loose lead walking and self-control.

They are making great progress and having loads of fun along the way! Well done team!

Moose demonstrating perfectly, settling with his chew during puppy class.

I always ask owners to bring items for their pups when attending, so that puppies have the opportunity to settle with something to do in between activities.

He went into his bag, got it out and took it to his bed! Clever boy! ✨😄🐾

Last week I saw Cooper and his owner for a one-to-one session regarding building more of a connection on his walks whilst ensuring his breed specific needs are met.

Cooper’s owner has an amazing understanding of what his breed specific needs and personality type are. She doesn’t want to fix these in any way. He also has some great foundations, but she would like a little bit more connectedness on their walks. We also discussed that prevention is better than cure and whilst his recall is good, there is room for improvement, for him to have some really great skills, especially around wildlife. Which will in turn give his owner more confidence in these situations.

Cooper LOVES using his nose and why wouldn’t he? Dogs as a species are geared up for nose work, however, some breeds, including spaniels were really built to sniff!

Just part of Cooper’s training plan is simple activities that he and his owner can do together, homing in on meeting his breed specific needs, whilst increasing connectedness and improving his skills! Crucially for Cooper, though this part included treats, not all of his sniffing is just for food morsels, as in the hedges is where he really loves being!

He was a star for his first session ⭐️ such a clever boy and loves learning!

Some pictures from puppy class this week! (Adaptations made to ensure everyone remained safe).

Great learning - a mixture of socialisation opportunities and some fun games to learn where each puppy was far too engrossed in what they were doing with their owners to think about each other as distractions!

Great work ✨
