🌟 IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT TO SERVICES 🌟

Some exciting news to share with those of you who don’t already know - as of the end of the day today I will be going on maternity leave! I’m aiming to take approximately 12 months off, stepping away from my business during this time.

So what does this mean for my business?

• I still very much own my business, however, to comply with UK Maternity Allowance rules I will only be responding to any text/facebook/WhatsApp messages, voicemails, emails etc on specific ‘keep in touch’ days. I’m allowed a certain number of these over the course of my leave and therefore they will be used wisely. This isn’t only to keep in line with the rules, but to concentrate on time with my family as well. On these days Facebook posts may go out but I will only be responding to comments or messages on the back of these, on this day.

• For all new enquiries (or questions from existing clients) please only communicate via:

—> Message the business page

As you will then receive an automated response which will direct you to other trusted professionals. It will also give you information on my next ‘keep in touch’ day and give you information on approximately when my diary will re open to take bookings for when I’m back to work - please note spaces will be extremely limited.

I don’t have the ability to set up automated responses on standard Facebook messenger/text/WhatsApp so these will not be responded to or monitored unless it is a ‘keep in touch’ day.

I’m so grateful to everyone of you who have recommended me, ensuring I can keep doing what I love in helping owners and their dogs, over the last four years. I look forward to supporting more of you on my return, as well as seeing my wonderful regular clients again 😄

🎆 Firework tips 🎆

I everyone, with bonfire night only a few weeks away below are some tips which may help you in the run up and for the season:

🟣 Walk and feed early: Take your dog for a walk and feed them well before dark so they finish before displays begin. It may be a good idea to start bringing this routine forwards a little each day now to help with the transition.

🟣 Build a safe den: Create a cosy, covered hiding space using a crate, furniture, or a quiet corner lined with blankets and your clothes. If your dog responds well to this.

🟣 Check home security: Lock all windows, doors, and garden gates tightly so a startled dog cannot bolt. (Or a cat or small dog with open windows).

🟣 Update ID tags: Make sure your dog's microchip details and collar tags are completely up to date.

🟣 Consider calming aids: Plug in a pheromone diffuser like Adaptil or talk to your vet about specialized calmers or medication if your dog suffers from severe fear. Vets will need to check your dog over prior to prescription and you will likely wish to do a ‘trial’ dose before using in the context. These things can take time so start organising now.

🟣 Block out sights and sounds: Close all curtains and blinds, turn on the lights, and play the TV, radio, or pet-friendly classical music (like Classic FM, pop music or bongo drums have also been shown to be beneficial) to mask the noise.

🟣 Stay home where possible or arrange company for your pet if you are at work so that your pet isn’t distressed at home. Avoid taking them to outdoor firework displays or leaving them in cars. Some dogs do enjoy watching fireworks from windows. If they are calm and enjoy this then inside may be okay. However, it wouldn’t be recommended outside as there is risk of a loud firework going off and scaring them.

🟣 Equally taking puppies to fireworks displays for exposure is not recommended due to how immersed they would be and how little escape they have. It is much better to gradually build their confidence at home where they may hear them at a much more appropriate level. Further confidence building and exposure can then be worked on with tv sounds over the next year.

🟣 Follow your dog's lead: Let them hide if they want to, or offer gentle comfort and distraction with toys and treats if they seek your attention. Play can be really beneficial if they are up for this!

🟣 Stay calm yourself: Act normal and relaxed, as dogs pick up heavily on your emotional state. Never tell your dog off for shaking, whining, or pacing. If they seek reassurance it is okay to give this; it won’t reinforce their fear but this reassurance should be ‘normal’.

- ‘Pay as you go’ booking is essential to ensure appropriate numbers

A fantastic ‘Games for Life Skills’ session last week!

It was finally cool enough to take what they’ve been learning in the secure paddock (in the shade) out into a busier environment.

They smashed it!
