This weekend Horse events are at Calmsden. It is always a great event, well run with super ground. Mark is competing on Sunday on Joes Clover. Mark and Joey are finishing the season with Joey’s second 100 run with aim to start next season doing BE100’s. Joey is also lead horse next weekend of the Gloucestershire Equine Vets Yearlings team at the Cotswold Team Chase 🤩. We have our intermediate speed team also running on the Sunday too with Mark riding Lucky. Mark and the boys have a couple of fun weekends ahead 🤩 If you are at the event this weekend do pop over and say hello. Good luck to everyone competing at Calmsden. 🤩🤩

Well what a season!!!! Despite the practice being very busy we have managed to squeeze in Joey’s first full season of eventing. We have had a super season starting at Offchurch with a 2nd in a Cotswold Cup 90 (only our second 90 class). After a 3rd at Horse Events Swalcliffe 90 ODE, we decided to go affiliated with British Eventing. After a couple of green moments at Solihull and West Wilts, he really got it together with solid double clears at Oxstalls and Offchurch Bury meaning we got a ticket for BE90 regionals. Earlier this month we went to BE regionals at Chillington Hall. With extra flags and tents of a bigger venue he did find the dressage and show-jumping a little exciting but cruised round the xc and still finished solidly in mid field. We then took the plunge to step him up a bit and try a 100 class. With Moreton Morrell cancelled we rerouted to the Cotswold Cup at Cirencester Park. After a solid dressage test, he got away a bit in the show jumping and just had a pole. But what a round XC!!!!!! He stormed round taking the bigger fences and tighter lines in his stride and we finished a really creditable 10th. I never imagined when we bought him as weedy 4 year old out of Cavan sales he would turn out so talented. Thank you so much to Sarah Norris for letting me compete him and all her hard work, Victoria Gregg for her brilliant coaching and support from the Oxleaze rug wash. Can’t wait until next season

Last week, Mark managed to squeeze in a day at the British Equine Veterinary Association annual congress in Birmingham. This is the second biggest annual veterinary congress in the world bringing equine vets from all corners of the world together for a range of lectures and discussions on a range of topics. It is also a great chance to catch up on the latest developments and innovative products. One of the sessions was on wound management and suture techniques. As we are always trying to improve one of these different techniques/ suture patterns was used on a shoulder wound yesterday with a great result.
