Cheltenham Animal Shelter is a charity that has been helping animals since 1926. Based in the heart of Gloucestershire, we rescue and rehome stray, unwanted and abandoned cats, dogs and small animals. Each year we care for hundreds of animals without the help of government funding so we rely greatly on the generosity of animal lovers like you to ensure that our doors remain firmly open. Cheltenham

Animal Shelter is an executive member of the ‘Association of Dogs and Cats Homes’, whereby we adhere to and exceed their code of practice. At our Cheltenham site, in addition to our rehoming facilities, we have dog and cat boarding facilities, dog daycare, dog grooming parlour, charity shop, and low-cost vet practice. Proceeds from these businesses help the rescue animals in our care.

Three-year-old Faith is a wonderfully sweet and gentle girl with a naturally quiet and shy nature. As an ex-racer, she’s used to a very different pace of life, so she’s now discovering the joys of a quieter home and all the little things that come with it.

She’s happiest when she can take life at her own pace and loves having her favourite person nearby, often following along and keeping a very cute eye on whatever you’re getting up to!

Faith would thrive in a peaceful home where she can enjoy the quieter side of life. She’d love gentle walks where she can take her time exploring, rather than busy routes, and a secure garden would be a fantastic bonus for her to potter around in, enjoy some fresh air and continue building her confidence.

Faith could potentially live with a well-socialised sighthound, but she wouldn’t be able to live with cats or small animals. As she’s never lived in a home before, we’re still getting to know how she’ll feel about being left alone, so this will need to be introduced gradually and patiently.

Faith would be best suited to a home with older teenagers or adults who will appreciate her gentle nature and give her the time and space she needs to settle in and feel at home.

We think that with the right environment and lots of love, Faith will really blossom and show you all the lovely little ways she enjoys spending time with her people - email 👉 [email protected] 👈 to apply or find out more!

Our Autumn Dog Show is coming! 🍂🐾

Having made the difficult decision to cancel our Summer Open Day in July due to the extreme heat, we’re delighted to announce our Autumn Dog Show, giving our supporters the chance to enjoy some of the most popular highlights from the day – just with a lovely autumn twist!

We hope you’ll join us for a fun-filled day for the whole family featuring:

🐕 Fun Dog Show & Musical Sits
🐾 Dog Fun Zone
🎈 Kids’ games & bouncy castle
🛍️ Charity shop bargains
🍾 Boozy tombola
🍰 BBQ, bar & cake shop
🎟️ Raffle

And, of course, every penny raised will help us continue caring for the animals at Cheltenham Animal Shelter.

WE NEED CAKE AND BOOZE DONATIONS 🍰🍾

Our cake shop and boozy tombola are two of our biggest fundraisers on the day, so if you’re able to support us by donating cakes, bakes, bottles, cans or other suitable items, we’d be incredibly grateful! Please drop your donations into the Shelter before the event.

Thank you for helping us make our Autumn Dog Show a fantastic day for our supporters – and, most importantly, helping animals in need.

Five-year-old Panini is a lovely, affectionate boy who absolutely adores his favourite people! Once he’s had a little time to get to know you, he’ll happily soak up all the fuss and cuddles you can give him. He also loves a good play session and having fun with his humans.

Panini would be happiest living with older teenagers or adults in a quieter area, where he can enjoy a more peaceful pace of life. He can be a little unsure when meeting new people and may have a bark to let them know he’s feeling nervous, but once he gets to know you, his sweet and cuddly side really shines through. With a little time, patience and understanding, you’ll soon see what a wonderful boy he is!

He’s a real people-lover and enjoys having company around, so a home where someone is around for most of the day would suit him perfectly. Panini would also like to be the only pet, so he can have all the attention to himself.

If you’re looking for a loving companion with cuddles, playtime and plenty of affection on the menu, Panini could be the perfect fit for your home - email 👉 [email protected] 👈 to apply or find out more!

🐰 Meet Frank (age 3) and Flora (age 4)!

This adorable pair are looking for a home together and, as you can see, they absolutely adore each other!

Frank and Flora are very well bonded and love nothing more than cuddling up together for a cosy snooze, especially when they can stretch out on their platform and enjoy a sunny afternoon.

They’re also both big fans of their food and will happily race over to see what you’ve got whenever they spot someone approaching with treats.

Frank and Flora could be suited to either an indoor or outdoor home, but wherever they live, they’ll need plenty of space to explore, exercise and relax together - email 👉 [email protected] 👈 to apply or find out more!

This Sunday our success story features the beautiful Gypsy who came to the Shelter in August 2025 from another rescue centre.

One month later she found her perfect match with new owner Gemma, who renamed her Luna:

Luna is a happy, content, confident girl. She’s needy in the sweetest way, endlessly loving, and absolutely beautiful. She loves short bursts of energy followed by lots (and lots) of sleeping.

After losing our previous beloved pet a few months earlier, we felt the absence of four paws in our home. We began looking online and contacted Cheltenham Animal Shelter, who replied straight away. Through our conversations about Luna (then Gypsy), our hearts were already opening and the moment we met her, we knew she was meant to be part of our family.

Luna has settled in amazingly well. She’s made lots of friends, but her best friend is a dachshund called Frank. She loves muddy walks, cheesy snacks, and sleeping on whoever stays sat down for long enough.”

What a fantastic story – we are so pleased for Luna and her new family! Share your story with us at 👉 www.gawa.org.uk/success-stories

Five-year-old Astro is a friendly, fun-loving boy who is always ready for a little adventure! He’s a sociable chap who enjoys meeting people and, while toys aren’t really his thing, he absolutely loves running around with his humans and showing off his impressive zoomies!

Astro enjoys a good fuss and would love a home where he can settle into a comfortable routine. A secure garden would be a real bonus, giving him somewhere safe to practise his toilet training and let off some steam.

Astro could live with children aged 10+ and may potentially be able to share his home with a female sighthound following careful introductions. He cannot live with cats or small animals.

As Astro hasn’t experienced a home environment before, we’re unsure how he will find being left alone, so this will need to be introduced gradually and positively.

Astro is ready to find his forever home, where he can settle in, enjoy plenty of fuss and make the most of life with his new family - email 👉 [email protected] 👈 to apply or find out more!

Beautiful nine-year-old Primrose is looking for a calm home where she can be the centre of attention, without children or other animals.

Primrose is a lovely girl with a very typical cat personality – she likes things on her own terms! When she wants fuss, though, she certainly enjoys plenty of attention and will happily soak up the affection.

She would love access to the outdoors, as she enjoys relaxing in the sunshine and can often be found lazing in sunny spots in our catio.

Primrose has a heart murmur which will need to be monitored regularly, and she is on a special urinary diet to help manage crystals and support her bladder health.

If you’re looking for a lovely older girl who enjoys life at her own pace, Primrose could be the perfect match - email 👉 [email protected] 👈 to apply or find out more.

A huge thank you to the fantastic team from Hilton Puckrup Hall Hotel & Golf Club, Tewkesbury for joining us for a Helping Hands Day at the Shelter!

Thank you to Jen, Rich and Barry for getting stuck in and helping with our outside furniture, seed beds, gardening and general maintenance around the Shelter.

They even planted some lovely basil for our bunnies, which is looking great this morning after a little bit of rain!

And, of course, there was time to meet some of our resident four-legged friends, including the adorable Astro!

We really appreciate all your hard work and support – thank you for helping us make a difference for the animals in our care!
